Bio

Darren Damewood was named the head equipment manager for the Moravian College athletic department on July 1, 2011. Damewood oversees a staff of two part-time assistant equipment managers as well as a student staff. He supervises all aspects of athletic equipment operations, assists all staff with purchasing and is certified in equipment fitting. Damewood has been a certified active member of the AEMA (athletic equipment manager’s association) since 2007.

Damewood is a 2006 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts and a minor in education. He worked with position coaches at Texas football practices (P/K, DE and LB), learned helmet and shoulder pad maintenance, learned equipment room structure and functions, served as game-day defensive assistant, functioned as hotel manager on the road and helped coordinate four summer Texas football camps.

He has served as an equipment manager and worked with football operations for the Dallas Vigilantes and Kansas City Command in the Arena Football League for two years and with the Manchester Wolves of the AF2 in 2009.

Damewood has also been involved with the five seasons of the Friday Night Lights television show, serving as head equipment manager and assistant technical advisor the last two years of the program.

In his first year at Moravian, he spearheaded a campaign for the SpaceSavers' "Rock Ur Storage" contest. Moravian won $30,000 worth of SpaceSavers equipment as a result and the SpaceSaver was installed before preseason camps of 2012. The project had an immediate positive effect, increasing work space and hanging space while decreasing clutter and impacting efficiency, organization and sanitation. Installation allowed the equipment room to re-organize the other equipment and storage areas in the department. Damewood continued to supervise student workers in the equipment room, as well as organizing and supervising the basketball set-up crew in Johnston Hall.

In 2012, Damewood expanded his responsibilities by helping upgrade the football program's equipment and apparel, giving all coaches equipment and apparel suggestions, volunteering with S.A.A.C., giving fundraising suggestions to each team and helping with team logo designs.

In 2013, he continued to improve overall equipment room operational efficiency and suggested better locker room security with key pads. Damewood was a 2013 nominee and runner-up for the RAW Athletics Equipment Manager of the Year. At the 2013 Equipment Manager National Convention, he was asked to lead the Division III discussion group and won third place in the helpful hints category by repurposing a helmet rack as a drying rack during the season.
