EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team snapped a tie with a pair of goals in the final 3:01 to earn a 9-7 non-conference win at Wilkes University Friday afternoon as the Greyhounds improved to 7-2 on the year.
Freshman attack James Carroll led the Blue and Grey with a hat trick while freshman midfielder Alec Oriolo had two goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Christopher Klodowski added two goals while senior midfielder Dave Fiumara and freshman attack Jack Gozzard each had a goal and an assist.
Freshman goalie Kurt Dick made 14 saves and added four ground balls for the Greyhounds while freshman defender John Polich led the squad with seven ground balls to go with an assist. Freshman midfielder Hayden DuPont won 7-of-16 face-offs with four ground balls while Gozzard added three ground balls.
The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the first quarter on a goal by Klodowski, and the Hounds lead 2-0 after 15 minutes of action with Carroll scoring late in the quarter. Moravian pushed its lead to 4-0 with another goal by Carroll and one from Gozzard before the Colonels scored three times in the final 6:39 of the half to cut the Blue and Grey's lead to 4-3 at halftime.
Each team scored once in the third quarter, and Moravian had a 6-4 lead after Oriolo scored three and a half minutes into the fourth quarter. The Colonels would score the next two goals to tie the match at 6-6 before Oriolo put the Hounds in front again. Wilkes tied the contest again at 7-7 before Carroll scored a man-up goal with 3:01 remaining to give the Greyhounds the lead for good. Klodowski added an insurance goal with just over a minute left in the contest.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 30 in a non-conference match versus King's College beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field.
