BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals in a 4-2 Landmark Conference win over Juniata College on Senior Day at John Makuvek Field Saturday as the Greyhounds remained alive in the race for a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament.
"It was a great win today," stated Head Coach Todd Ervin. "We were able to get four different scorers on the board which is nice to see. This puts us in almost the same position as last year with cementing a place in the playoffs with a win against Susquehanna next Saturday."
The Hounds, now 8-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in Landmark Conference play, needed just 6:25 to get onto the scoreboard as senior midfielder Brett Lubben drilled in his fourth goal of the game as he blasted a loose ball into the net from 18 yards out after a corner kick by the Greyhounds. Senior midfielder Connor Phillips would make it a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute when he pulled up and blasted a shot from 30 yards out that glanced off of the goalie's hands and into the left side of the net. The tally was the third of the season and 18th of Phillips' career.
The Blue and Grey would make the lead go to 3-0 just over two minutes later when sophomore midfielder Dylan Evande was on the right side of the net near the goal line and fired a shot into the left side for his team-leading fifth goal of the fall. Moravian held the 3-0 lead into the intermission while outshooting the Eagles, 11-6, in the first 45 minutes.
Juniata would make the match interesting in the second half with goals in the 57th and 70th minutes to cut the Greyhounds lead to 3-2. Freshman midfielder Alec Aloia used his speed to chase down a ball along the left side in the 81st minute, and he would deposit a shot in the net for his second goal of the season. The Hounds finished off the match with a 24-10 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalie Bryan Yaskowski made two stops in the match, both in the first half including one where Yaskowski's entire body except for his hands and the ball were behind the goal line.
Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, October 25 when the Greyhounds will host DeSales University in a non-conference action beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
