Why did you choose Moravian College?
Moravian College felt like the right choice when I came here on a
visit my senior year of high school. I was already interested in
the great academics, low class sizes, as well as playing soccer but
what really sold me was the feel of the school. Moravian just
seemed like the right fit for me. Players I had visited as well as
classes I had sat-in on were enjoyable and the people were
extremely welcoming.
What is your major and why?
I am majoring in Environmental Science, B.S. with minors in Spanish
and Military Science. I chose environmental science for it was a
subject which I was curious about. Growing up, I had enjoyed
spending much time in the outdoors. It just made sense to learn
more about the environment which already interested me. Many of the
classes in the major had intrigued me so I knew I would enjoy
continuing my studies in Environmental Science
What has been your favorite course at Moravian and
why?
Introductory Geology with adjunct professor Dr. Exton has by far
been my favorite class yet here at Moravian. Professor Exton was a
motivated teacher who was able to engage and connect with his
students. Even a topic such as geology which most students would
expect to be boring, he was able to turn into an enjoyable and
appealing subject. I never expected to have fun at a science lab
until he had us use different color play-dough to demonstrate how
certain geological features came to be. This was an extremely
beneficial and interesting class offered by Moravian.
What are your plans for the future once you finish your
degree at Moravian?
Upon my graduation from Moravian in the spring of 2013 I will be
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Currently, I am cross-enrolled in the ROTC program hosted by nearby
Lehigh University. As part of an Army scholarship, I am required to
serve 8 years in the Army post-graduation however; my education
here at Moravian is fully paid for by the government. I plan to
branch Infantry, E.O.D., or Armor.
What is your most memorable moment as a
Greyhound?
My most memorable moment as a Greyhound was the opening weekend for
our 2010 season when we beat Centenary College 6-0 in our home
opener. Seeing our team come together that weekend and net numerous
goals was quite an accomplishment. It shows how hard work in the
off season can truly bring success on the field.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student and in
the classroom?
Being an athlete has helped me in my academics by stressing the
importance of time-management. By balancing a varsity sport on top
of a full course load, I was required to use my time much more
efficiently than the average student. As a result, when given an
abundance of course work in little time, I have an advantage over
other students due to these my time-management skills.
What is the hardest part of your sport?
With 90-110 minutes of play and limited substitutions in soccer,
fatigue is the hardest aspect of college soccer. In order to play
your best regardless of how long you have been in, how many miles
you’ve run, and how banged-up you are, you must be mentally
tough. It does not matter how good you are when you are fresh, but
rather the quality of play you exhibit when the game is on the line
and you’re so tired and bruised that you cannot feel a
thing.
What advice do you have for a prospective Moravian
College student-athlete?
Take full advantage of everything that Moravian has to offer
prospective students. From tours and interviews to meeting the
coaches, overnight stays, and sitting in on classes, use everything
you can to see the whole school. In addition to great athletic
programs, Moravian College has a wide variety of benefits to offer
its students.
