Alan Heverly, a 1996 Moravian graduate, returned to the school on September 1, 2015 to begin his tenure as Director of Men's and Women's Tennis. He guided the men's program to a 13-7 overall record in 2015-16 with a berth in the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championship match while the women's team was 7-8 in his debut season. Heverly has career marks of 15-19 with the men and 17-15 with the women after the squad played in the Landmark Conference Tournament in 2017.

Heverly played two seasons for the Greyhounds with a 21-8 singles record after attending Bucks Country Community College where he played in two NJCAA national tournaments. He helped the 1996 squad to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League title while serving as a team captain, and it was the program's first-ever postseason berth. In addition to his prowess on the court, Heverly was an outstanding student at Moravian. He was named to the GTE Academic All-America College Division First Team as a senior, the MAC All-Academic Team in 1995 and 1996 and Moravian's Co-Blue & Grey Senior Scholar-Athlete in 1996.

Heverly was inducted into Moravian's Hall of Fame in 2008. He was a non-traditional student that began his college career nearly 20 years after finishing high school and his story of being an NCAA Division III student-athlete in his late 30s and early 40s landed him in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd and a small note in the USA Today after being named an Academic All-American.

After graduation, Heverly returned to Moravian at various times to assist then Head Coach Jim Walker with the men's tennis team. Heverly served as interim head coach in 1996-97, leading the Hounds to a 9-5 record, while Walker was in his second stint as interim director of athletics. Heverly was on Moravian's coaching staff for as a volunteer assistant coach, assistant coach and associate Head Coach in 2005. Heverly was an assistant coach at Lehigh University for a time as well.

Heverly completed his Bachelors of Arts in psychology at Moravian in 1996, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and he finished a Masters of Education in human development at Lehigh in 2000.

Heverly has over 24 years of coaching experience most recently as a teaching professional at Northwood Racquet Club.
