Why did you choose Moravian College?
I chose Moravian College because I fell in love with the campus when I first came here to visit. I absolutely loved the small college atmosphere and everyone was so warm and accepting, including the soccer team, other students, and faculty. Moravian College also has a fantastic nursing program, so I just knew that this was the place for me.
What is your major and why?
My major is nursing. I decided to become a nurse after my grandfather passed away my junior year of high school for a couple of reasons. One reason is that I wanted to help people during the worst time of their lives. I love helping people and I love the satisfaction that I get from seeing them improve and knowing that I was directly involved with it. The other reason why I chose nursing is that there are so many options for me to choose from. I could choose to be an OB nurse for a few years, decide that’s not what I want to do anymore, and then become a critical care nurse. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs on the planet.
What has been your favorite course at Moravian and why?
My favorite course that I’ve taken at Moravian was ENGL 104 C, my War in Literature class. Instead of focusing on dates and specific battles, we discussed war in general and how it affected the soldiers, the families, everything. I truly got more out of this class than what I was expecting and found out more about myself than ever before.
What are your plans for the future once you finish your degree at Moravian?
I am a homebody and always have been, so I plan on going back home and trying to get a job at either Geisinger Medical Center or Evangelical Community Hospital as, hopefully, an OB nurse.
What is your most memorable moment as a Greyhound?
Our semi-final game against the Catholic University of America, where we won 4-3 in 2OT in front of the entire campus.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student and in the classroom?
Being an athlete has definitely helped me to succeed in the classroom because my schedule is very structured and that allows me to stay organized. As an athlete, I have a very competitive mindset to do the best that I can possibly do, and this helps me as a student because I want to do the best that I can possibly do in the classroom.
What is the hardest part of your sport?
The hardest part of my sport is to maintain your health and fitness, especially over the summer break.
Why do you wear your jersey number?
I wear my jersey number because I take pride in it. It’s also one of my favorite numbers.
Name one obstacle or form of adversity you have had to overcome.
One obstacle that I have had to overcome was when I was coming back from my hip surgery. I had a torn labrum and on August 3rd, 2015 I had surgery. This caused me to miss my entire sophomore season. I wasn’t able to even lightly job for 3 months. I faced numerous setbacks, mostly because I pushed to hard some days, but in the end I came out on top and was determined to not let my hip slow me down.
Why is community service important to your role as a student-athlete at Moravian?
Community service allows us to give back to our surrounding community, which, unfortunately, is filled with numerous struggling families. The children are the ones that are affected most, so anything that we can do to help is of the utmost importance. Something that will always fill my heart with joy is seeing the children that we have helped smile and laugh over the tiniest acts of kindness.
What advice do you have for a prospective Moravian College student-athlete?
I would advise them to embrace and enjoy every second of every year that you have as a student-athlete because four years flies by very quickly, and before you know it you’re senior season is over and you’re graduating.
