TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's cross country team has been picked to second in the 2017 Landmark Conference Preseason Poll voted on by the conference coaches.

The Greyhounds received 48 points in the poll while defending Landmark Conference Champion Elizabethtown College was selected first in the poll with 70 points and seven first-place votes. Susquehanna University received the other first-place vote with Moravian, the River Hawks and Juniata College separated by just five points in the poll.

Head Coach Jesse Baumann begins his seventh season leading the squad that returns nine competitors from last fall. Leading the pack will be sophomore Katie Mayer, who was the 2016 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year after placing second at last October's Landmark Conference meet to earn a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Mayer also made the NCAA Division III Mideast All-Region team after finishing 23rd at the regional meet.

"We obviously lost some huge pieces to our team last year but so far our freshmen are looking good, junior Alyssa Limbaugh is coming back strong from a spring injury, and our sophomores who were key to last year's success are picking up where they left off," stated Baumann. I know we can be a very good team, it's just a matter of when it'll all click."

Moravian starts its 2017 season on Friday, September 1 at the Lehigh University Invitational with the race slated to begin at 6:15 p.m. on the Goodman Campus.
