TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior guard Matt O’Connor has been named the Landmark Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.
TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior guard Matt O'Connor has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.
O'Connor helped Moravian to a 2-0 week in Landmark Conference action as the squad clinched its fourth straight conference tournament appearance. O'Connor averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while playing 79 of 80 minutes during the week, and he shot 15-of-32 from the floor, 4-for-14 on three-pointers and 13-for-20 at the foul line. O'Connor had 18 points, three rebounds five assists while playing all 40 minutes in a 68-66 victory over The University of Scranton. He had the final point of the game on a free throw with four seconds left. O'Connor then netted a career-high 29 points to go with six rebounds and four assists as the Greyhounds rallied for a 69-64 win at Goucher College to clinch a postseason berth.
"Matt has been playing very well all season, and he has really stepped up his play even more over the last few weeks," noted first-year Head Coach Shawn Postiglione. "Matt has been a leader for us this season and is a key component for using having won six of our last seven games to clinch a berth in the conference tournament."
Moravian, with is 13-10 overall and 8-4 in Landmark Conference action, is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, February 19 when the squad hosts Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference game tipping off at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
