TOWSON, Md. --- Senior third baseman Rachel DeLucia and sophomore pitcher Lindsay Sullivan of the Moravian College softball team have been honored as the Landmark Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances over the last seven days.
The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 4-0 mark in Landmark Conference action as the squad clinched the second seed in the Landmark Tournament after scoring 45 runs the four games.
DeLucia hit .692 last week, going 9-for-13 at the plate with a double and three of the team's eight homers for a 1.462 slugging percentage. She also drove in eight runs and scored seven more. DeLucia connected on two homers and was 3-for-5 at the plate in the Greyhounds' 19-11 win at Scranton. She was also 2-for-2 with a homer in Moravian's 14-2 win over Juniata.
"Rachel has been seeing the ball very well the last two weeks and has come up big for us in clutch situations," stated Head Coach John Byrne.
Sullivan tossed a pair of complete game victories in the circle to improve to 8-0 on the year. She allowed just one run on six hits while striking out two batters in a 3-1 win at Scranton, and Sullivan followed that up with three more strikeouts and two runs allowed on five hits and a walk in the 14-2 victory over the Eagles this past Saturday.
"Lindsay has been very consistent all year with solid control, while keeping hitters off balance," Byrne said.
Moravian will return to action in the opening round of the Landmark Tournament on Friday, May 2 when the second seeded Greyhounds battle third seed The Catholic University of America at 1:00 p.m. at top seed Susquehanna University. The tournament runs through Saturday with the top seed earning an automatic berth to the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
