Greyhounds See Second Half Lead Slip Away in Overtime Loss to Drew
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball squad led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before falling to visiting Drew University, 62-58 in overtime, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring on a jumper by sophomore forward Lanie Herbert while the Rangers took a 5-4 lead on a three-pointer at the 6:10 mark. Graduate student forward Sam Osorio gave the Blue & Grey the lead back with a jumper two minutes later and a jumper by junior guard Jayda Cartagena made it 8-5. Drew knotted the score with a three-pointer while sophomore guard Lizzie Lustig hit a late lay-up for a 10-8 edge; however, the Rangers beat the buzzer to make it 10-10 after ten minutes of action
- Drew scored the first basket of the second quarter before Moravian went on a 9-0 run with a jumper by Osorio putting the Hounds up 19-12 at the 5:48 mark of the period. The Rangers closed within three points at 21-18, but the Blue & Grey scored the final seven points of the half with a free throw from freshman guard Ellie Wallbillich sending Moravian to the locker room with a 28-18 edge
- Lustig began the third period with a jumper to push the advantage to 12 points, and the Greyhounds held a 40-27 lead with 4:27 to go in the third quarter after a jumper from junior guard Juliana Vassallo. That would be Moravian's final points of the period as Drew netted the last six points of the quarter to make the Hounds' edge 40-33 after 30 minutes of play
- The Rangers got within five points to start the fourth quarter before Osorio converted on a three-point play and Herbert added another lay-up to push the Moravian advantage back to double digits at 45-35 with 7:12 remaining. Drew countered with an 11-0 run to move ahead 46-45 with 3:12 on the clock while free throws from Lustig and Wallbillich had the Blue & Grey up 47-46 with 2:07 to play. The Rangers added three free throws for a 49-47 edge before freshman guard Emma Pukszyn sank a driving lay-up with 8.7 seconds left in the period to force overtime with the squads tied at 49-49
- Wallbillich gave the Hounds an early 51-49 lead with a lay-up to start the scoring in overtime; however, Drew scored the eight of the next ten points to hold a 57-53 edge with 34 seconds on the clock. Vassallo hit a jumper to get Moravian within two, and she added a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to put the Greyhounds up by one, 58-57. The Rangers went down the court and sank a three-pointer of their own with nine seconds to go, and Drew added two free throws to seal the contest
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had two players in double figures led by Osorio, who had a game-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds and two assists
- Herbert recorded her third double-double of the season with a career-high 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots while Vassallo finished with nine points, five boards and four assists
- Wallbillich netted eight points with six rebounds while Lustig contributed seven points, five rebounds and five assists
- Pukszyn added two points, three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals while Cartagena and sophomore guard Emma Altmire each had two points
- The Hounds were 25-for-63 from the field, 1-for-8 on three-pointers and 7-for-13 at the foul line
- The Blue & Grey registered a 49-35 advantage on the boards including 14-8 on the offensive glass
