TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Meg Brockett has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive Monday after her performance last Saturday.
Brockett captured first place in the 5,000-meter run at the non-scoring Seamus McElligott Invitational hosted by Haverford College with an ECAC qualifying time of 17:20.20, the tenth fastest NCAA Division III time in the nation this season. The top 18 individuals in each event will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships next month. Brockett's time was a personal best as well as the second fastest time in school history and a Landmark Conference record.
"Meg had to lead the race from the gun and was remarkably consistent clipping off 83-84 second splits like a metronome," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "It's a tough thing to do when you're establishing the pace by yourself for three miles and if she was in a race with a few more to push her I know she could drop even more time. It currently ranks her 10th in the country, so we're hoping that'll be fast enough to hold up and get her to the NCAAs."
Moravian will have its final tune-up for the 2017 Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday, February 18 when the squad heads to the Kutztown University 6-Team Qualifier.
