Thompson Named to Empire 8 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Senior Tyler Thompson of the Moravian College golf team has been named to the 2012-13 Empire 8 Conference Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team announced Wednesday.

Thompson averaged 83.5 strokes per round during his senior season in 13 total rounds. He had a career low 76 in a tri-match with DeSales University and Cabrini College to close out his career, and Thompson, who was a co-captain for the golf team, played three of the team's five rounds last fall while also being the starting punter and place kicker for the Greyhound football team. Thompson missed the first two rounds of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament last September for a football game at Johns Hopkins University, but he was third on the squad in the two spring rounds of the tournament with a 168.

Thompson had four top-20 finishes in 2012-13 including tying for fifth at the Muhlenberg Invitational last week. In two seasons with the golf team, Thompson averaged 84.2 strokes per round over 20 rounds. In addition to golfing for two years and playing football all four years at Moravian, Thompson was a member of the baseball team his first two years as a Greyhound.

One member of each team in the Empire 8 was named that institution's representative on the 2012-13 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
