|Title:||Assistant Men's Soccer Coach|
A native of Alexander City, Alabama, Coach Robert Spain joined the Moravian men’s soccer program as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach in February of 2013. Prior to coming to Moravian, Coach Spain worked in the front office for the LA Galaxy during the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cup Championship seasons and spent the 2010 season as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach with both the men’s and women’s programs at Waldorf College.
Spain played collegiate soccer at the University of Charleston under 2009 NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year Chad Duernberger. As a captain, Spain helped the 2009 Charleston squad engineer one of the quickest program turnarounds in NCAA soccer history after inheriting a struggling 0-17-0 program. Charleston completed the 2009 season ranked No. 7 nationally with a 19-4-0 overall record, WVIAC conference regular season championship, WVIAC conference tournament championship and an NCAA D-II Atlantic Regional championship.
Coach Spain graduated with honors from the University of Charleston in 2010 with his Bachelors of Science in Sport Administration. He was named the 2009-2010 University of Charleston Outstanding Senior Sportsperson and was awarded the NCAA D-II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Coach Spain is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds his NSCAA National Diploma.
