He was named the 2009-2010 University of Charleston Outstanding Senior Sportsperson and was awarded the NCAA D-II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Coach Spain is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds his NSCAA National Diploma.
