Greyhounds Defeated by Rival Muhlenberg
The Moravian College field hockey team lost to rival Muhlenberg College Tuesday afternoon at Betty Prince Field, 3-1. Freshman midfielder Catherine Duffin netted the lone goal for the Greyhounds.
Muhlenberg would have a good opportunity to score first but junior defender Stephanie Pezzello would make a defensive save to keep the game knotted at zero. Moravian would then get on the board first, just nine minutes in with a great pass from junior forward Tori Poliskiewicz to Duffin, who knocked in the back of the net. The Mules would answer five minutes later when freshman midfielder Kayleigh Thies blasted a shot, which sophomore forward Dayna Horven tipped it into the back of the net.. Thies would then net a goal of her own the 24th minutes to put Muhlenberg up 2-1. The Greyhounds would put together an offensive surge at the end of the first half with four corners, and three shots.
The Mules would put the pressure on in the second half when sophomore forward Kristen Lang had an open goal to shoot at, but sophomore goalie Andrea Eck made a diving save to keep the deficit at one goal. Muhlenberg would slip one more goal by Eck in the 56th minute when Hovern would net her second goal of the game, and put the Mules up 3-1. The Greyhounds would rally to get four penalty corners and five shots off in the final ten minutes, but to no avail.
Eck would tally five saves in the contest. Her counterpart junior Kristen Dornenburg made eight saves in the match.
Moravian held the penalty corner advantage, 11-5, but the Mules had the edge in shots, 15-14.
