PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Claire Del Casale shattered her personal record in the 6,000-meter distance to lead the Moravian College women's cross country team at the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday morning.
Del Casale finished in 71st out of 206 harriers with a time of 23:02, beating her personal record by 10 seconds in the 6K. It also beat her best time from the 2012 season by 1:41.
"Claire had a phenomenal race," head coach Jesse Baumann said. "She ran a 10-second personal record on a course that was actually measured to be about 130 meters long. So the times were 30 seconds slower than they should have been. She was at the top of game today."
The Greyhounds finished in 22nd out of 25 in the team scoring competition on a day that saw a number of personal bests fall.
Junior Emily Lambright was the second Moravian finisher in 130th place with a time of 24:15, beating her personal record of 24:31 by 16 seconds in the 6K.
Junior Devon Bedell (24:53) and freshman Sarah Hughes (24:56) finished back-to-back, with Hughes recording a personal best in her rookie campaign. Freshman Larissa Strycharz finished right behind her teammates with a personal-record time of 25:04 to round out the top-five scorers for the Greyhounds.
Freshman Erin Love (25:09) also turned in a personal best, while freshman Meg Brockett rounded out the Moravian finishers.
The Greyhounds return to action at one of the biggest meets of the season on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by The Catholic University of America. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
