TOWSON, Md. – Junior Claire Del Casale has been selected the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season after her performance at the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday.
Del Casale set a personal record in the 6,000-meter distance to pace the Greyhounds at the Princeton University Invitational, which hosted a number of NCAA Division I and II programs.
The Moravian junior finished in 71st place out of 206 harriers with a time of 23:02, beating her personal best by 10 seconds in the 6K. It also beat her best time from the 2012 season by 1:41.
Head coach Jesse Baumann called the effort "a phenomenal race," and later admitted the time should have been faster. The course at Princeton was measured to be about 130 meters long, resulting in times approximately 30 seconds slower than the head coach anticipated.
Regardless of the actually distance of the race, Baumann said, "Claire was at the top of her game today."
The University of Scranton of the Landmark Conference joined Moravian at Princeton on Saturday. Del Casale was the top Landmark finisher, placing seven places ahead of Scranton's Cara Notariani.
The Greyhounds return to action at one of the biggest meets of the season on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by The Catholic University of America. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
