BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team started the 2024-25 campaign with a 6-1 victory over DeSales University in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Hounds won two of the three doubles contests to earn the doubles point in the match with the switch to seven-point match scoring this year. Freshmen Nicole Kalorin and Ali Willis combined for a 6-2 victory at second doubles for the first win while the tandem of junior Izzy Szmodis and sophomore Leah Zolotareva posted a 6-4 triumph at first doubles to earn the doubles point
- The NCAA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association changed the NCAA Division III rules beginning this fall for doubles action to count as one point overall instead of a point for each of the three matches. The doubles contests are also a single six-point set now instead of an eight-game pro set
- Moravian won the first five singles matches to finish the contest. Zolotareva opened singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles while sophomore Sydney Shifman made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. Szmodis needed three sets for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 triumph at second singles while freshman Nicole Kalorin clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Freshman Ali Willis scored Moravian's final point with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles
