Greyhounds Sweep Concordia-Moorehead at RussMatt Invitational
AUBURNDALE, Fla. --- The Moravian University baseball squad swept a doubleheader from Concordia-Moorehead (Minn.) College, winning 5-3 and 15-11, at the RussMatt Invitational Tuesday at Lake Myrtle Park.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Cobbers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning
- The Greyhounds answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to move ahead 2-1. Freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky was hit by a pitch with two outs and scored on a two-run homer to left field by sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar, his team-leading third home run of the season
- Concordia-Moorehead tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the second frame
- The Blue & Grey countered again with two runs in the home half of the second for a 4-2 edge. Graduate student second baseman Justin Otero and graduate student centerfielder David Olsakowski each drew walks while freshman shortstop David Vozzo singled to load the bases. Graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas and Harrar each drew bases loaded walks to being Otero and Olsakowski across the plate
- The Cobbers cut the score to 4-3 with a run in the top of the fifth inning
- Moravian made the lead 5-3 with one run in the bottom of the sixth frame. Olsakowski led off with an infield single and Vozzo drew a walk before Cherkas connected on an RBI single through the right side to score Olsakowski
- Freshman Antonio Albanese started on the mound and had six strikeouts through 3.2 innings before senior Matt Snyder came on for the final 3.1 innings to earn the win as Snyder struck out two batters
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Cobbers jumped out to a 1-0 lead again in the first inning of the second contest
- Moravian answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second frame to move ahead 2-1. Graduate student leftfielder Connor Wengryn reached on an error with two outs and raced around the bases to score on an RBI double from freshman second baseman Nathan Jones. Olsakowski followed with an RBI single down the left field line to bring in Jones
- The Hounds tacked on two runs in the top of the third inning for a 4-1 edge. Rabosky was hit by a pitch with one out and Harrar drew a walk. Sophomore right fielder Matt Westcott also drew a walk to load the bases before freshman catcher Ronnie Werkheiser ripped a two-RBI single that scored Rabosky and Harrar
- The Blue & Grey scored twice more in the top of the fourth for a 6-1 advantage. Cherkas hit a two-out single before Rabosky connected on a two-run homer to left field, his second home run of the season
- Concordia plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to knot the contest at 6-6
- The Greyhounds countered right back with two runs in the top of the fifth to move ahead 8-6. Westcott drew a leadoff walk, and he scored on an RBI single from Wengryn. Olsakowski connected on an RBI double to bring in Wengryn
- The Cobbers answered in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game again at 8-8
- Moravian scored seven times in the top of the eighth for a 15-8 lead. Cherkas was hit by a pitch with two outs, and freshman Dominic Venini came on to pinch run. Rabosky drew a walk before Harrar connected on a three-run homer to left field for his fourth home run of the spring. Wescott drew a walk and Werkheiser singled before Wengryn ripped an RBI single to center field to bring in Westcott. Jones followed with a two-RBI single to score Werkheiser and Wengryn while Jones scored the final run on an overthrow after stealing third base
- Concordia-Moorehead added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to finish off the scoring
- Freshman Cam Elicier started on the hill for the Hounds, and he had three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work while sophomore Wes Griffith tossed two-thirds of an inning. Senior Chris Medei pitched one inning while freshman EJ Youngling tossed 1.1 innings. Sophomore Nick Leonard posted two strikeouts and earned the win with 1.2 innings of work
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 21 hits in the two games with Werkeiser collecting three hits, two RBIs and a run and Olsakowski going 3-for-6 with two runs, two RBIs and a double
- Vozzo knocked out three hits while Cherkas recorded three hits with a run
- Harrar was 2-for-5 with two home runs, three runs and six RBIs while Westcott had a 2-for-4 day with two runs and a double
- Wengryn contributed two hits, three runs and two RBIs while Jones registered two hits, two runs, double and three RBIs
- Rabosky had one hit on the day, which was a homer, to go with four runs and two RBIs
- The Hounds stole 10 bases in the second game and 16 in the doubleheader
