Moravian Closes Out Series With Scranton On Senior Day
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team fell to The University of Scranton, 15-13 and 19-4 in seven innings, in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Gillespie Field Sunday on Senior Day.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Royals opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning
- The Greyhounds answered with a run in the bottom of the first to knot the score at 1-1. Freshman center fielder Luke Keitsock, graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas and freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky all drew walks to load the bases. Sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Keitsock
- The Blue & Grey moved ahead with two runs in the bottom of the second frame for a 3-1 edge. Graduate student outfielder David Olsakowski singled to begin the inning, and after he stole second, senior second baseman/outfielder Nick Henry drew a walk. Graduate student catcher Connor Wengryn connected on an RBI double down the right field line as Olsakowski raced home. Cherkas had an RBI sacrifice fly later in the inning to bring in Henry
- Scranton countered with four runs in the top of the third inning to move in front 5-3
- Moravian answered right back with two runs in bottom half of the third to knot the contest again at 5-5. Junior left fielder/first baseman Sean Superka walked with two outs before Olsakowski ripped a single. Henry had an infield single to load the bases while Wengryn hit another double down the right field line, this one scoring Superka and Olsakowski
- The Hounds moved back in front, 7-5, with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Keitsock hit a two-out single, and Cherkas connected on a two-run homer to left field, his team-leading eighth home run of the season and the 16th of his career
- The Royals took the lead for good with six runs in the top of the seventh
- Moravian got two runs back in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 11-9. Superka was hit by a pitch while Henry connected on a double. Wengryn followed with a two-RBI single to chase Superka and Henry home
- Scranton tacked on two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings for a 15-9 lead
- The Greyhounds nearly rallied in the bottom of the ninth as they scored four runs and had the winning run on base before a double play ended the contest. Olsakowski was hit by a pitch and Henry singled before Wengryn hit an RBI single to score Olsakowski. The hit for Wengryn was the 100th of his career as he became the 44th player in program history and third this season to reach the milestone. Keitsock singled to load the bases while Cherkas had an RBI walk to score Henry. Wengryn touched the plate on an RBI single from Rabosky while Harrar had an RBI walk to bring Keitsock home. The Hounds had the bases loaded at that point with no outs but were unable to get any closer
- Graduate student Aaron Flyte made the start on the mound, going five innings. Sophomore Wes Griffith tossed 1.1 innings while freshman Cam Elicier had one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning. Senior Chris Medei and sophomore Caden Ward each had one strikeout in an inning of action
- Prior to the game, Moravian honored seniors Nick Henry, Chris Medei and Matt Snyder and graduate student Justin Otero for their careers with the program
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Royals took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game, and Scranton added a run in the top of the third for a 3-0 edge
- The Hounds got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman shortstop David Vozzo led off with a double, and he raced home on an RBI single from Olsakowski
- Scranton scored seven runs on the top of the third inning, and the Royals added another eight runs in the fifth to take an 18-1 advantage
- Moravian pushed two runs home in the bottom of the fifth. Junior catcher James Ruban III drew a walk as a pinch hitter, and Keitsock followed with a two-run homer to right center, his second home run of the season
- The Blue & Grey made it 18-4 with a run in the sixth frame. Sophomore outfielder Domenic Venini singled with one out while Henry added a two-out hit. Ruban drew a walk to load the bases while sophomore third baseman Kiernan Keninitz added a bases loaded walk to push Venini home
- The Royals finished the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh as the game ended early with the Landmark Conference run rule
- Freshman Andrew Sagrestano made the start on the mound and had one strikeout in 2.2 innings of action. Sophomore Ryan Grill registered one strikeout in 1.2 innings while freshman Jack Steinel tossed a third of an inning. Sophomore Andrew Beneveunto had one strikeout in 1.1 innings of work while freshman Austin Bakalo finished the last inning with one strikeout
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 21 hits on the day with Wengryn going 5-for-6 with six RBIs, two doubles and a run
- Henry went 4-for-7 with three runs and a double while Cherkas was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a run, a homer, a double and three walks
- Keitsock had a 3-for-7 day with four runs, two RBIs and a homer while Olsakowski added three hits, three runs and an RBI
- Venini was 1-for-1 with a run and a double while Vozzo had a hit and a run
- Rabosky had one hit and an RBI while Superka scored twice and Ruban touched the plate once
- Harrar knocked in two runs
