Greyhounds Fall in Doubleheader to Wilkes
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad fell to Wilkes University, 26-1 in seven innings and 9-8 in 10 innings, Sunday in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Gillespie Field.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Colonels scored three runs in the top of the first inning and seven in the second frame for a 10-0 lead
- The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the second as freshman shortstop David Vosso led off with a single and eventually raced home on a wild pitch
- Wilkes scored at least two runs in every inning before the game ended with the conference 10-run rule after seven innings
- Moravian had eight pitchers head to the mound in the contest with freshman Jack Steinel making the start and recording one strikeout in 1.2 innings. Freshman Austin Bakalo and sophomore Ryan Hoffman both tossed a third of an inning with a strikeout while sophomore Nate McBride pitched 1.2 innings. Sophomores Caden Ward, freshman Chase Wengryn and junior Max Sponheimer all threw two-thirds of an inning with Wengrn registering two strikeouts and Sponheimer striking out one. Junior Stefano Garofalo pitched the final inning with three strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds began the second game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 4-0 advantage. Freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky reached on an error with two outs and Vozzo walked before senior right fielder Nick Henry ripped a two-RBI double. Graduate student catcher Connor Wengryn followed with a two-run homer to right field, his first home run of the season and second of his career
- The Colonels got onto the scoreboard with a run in the top of the second
- Moravian answered in the bottom of the third for a 5-1 lead. Henry connected on a two-out single before racing around the bases on an RBI double from Wengryn
- Wilkes knotted the game at 5-5 with four runs in the top of the fifth inning
- The Blue & Grey moved back ahead, 6-5, with a run in the bottom of the sixth frame. Graduate student left fielder David Olsakowski and sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar hit back-to-back doubles for the run
- The Colonels took a 7-6 lead with two runs in the top of the eighth inning
- Moravian countered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-7 edge. Olsakowski was hit by a pitch with two outs before Harrar and graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas walked to load the bases. Rabosky connected on a two-RBI single to chase in Olsakowski and Harrar home
- Wilkes tied the contest again with a run in the top of the ninth, and the Colonels scored the winning run in the top of the tenth
- Freshman Cam Elicier started on the hill for the Greyhounds, and he had four strikeouts in 4.2 innings while freshman Andrew Sagrestano added three strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Senior Matt Snyder tossed 1.2 innings while freshman Tyler Bonelli pitched the final inning
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 13 hits in the two games with Olsakowski going 3-for-4 with two runs and a double
- Connor Wengryn was 2-for-5 with a run, three RBIs, a double and a homer while Henry went 2-for-6 with two runs, two RBIs and a double
- Vozzo recorded two hits and scored twice while Harrar added a hit, a run, a double and an RBI. Harrar also drew five walks on the day to set the Moravian single season record with 32 walks this season, breaking the mark of 31 set by Olsakowski a year ago in ten fewer games this spring
- Rabosky contributed a hit, a run and two RBIs while Cherkas and freshman catcher Ronnie Werkheiser each had one hit
