Smurla Wins Second Straight NCAA Division III Metro Regional Title as Moravian Takes Third as a Team
LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. --- The Moravian University women’s cross country team finished third of 25 teams in the 2025 NCAA Division III Metro Regional at Gloucester County DREAM Park hosted by Rowan University Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds recorded 106 points, just three points behind The College of New Jersey while Swarthmore College finished first with 71 points to claim the regions automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championships at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina
- Senior Tara Smurla won her second straight NCAA Division III Metro Regional title, finishing first of the 192 runners in a personal best time of 21:11.4, taking 15 seconds off of her PR to win the race by one second. Smurla garners her fourth All-Region honor, and she is heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third consecutive fall as one of the top seven individuals not on a qualifying team
- Smurla became Moravian's second two-time Regional Champion, joining Heidi Wolfsberger, who won the regional title in 2000 and 2001. The Hounds' other regional champion was Tracy Wartman in 1994
- Senior Meghan Myers placed 13th in the race with a PR time of 22:28.7 to garner All-Region honors for the first time while freshman Kate Veivia took 29th in a PR time of 22:58.1 for All-Region accolades
- Junior Kierstyn Klingner also earned All-Region with a 34th place finish in a PR time of 23:04.3 while senior Tori Champagne was two spots back in 36th at 23:13.0
- Rounding out the Moravian runners were freshman Kiley Amend in 42nd at a PR time of 23:23.9 and junior Kayla O'Neil at 51st in 23:40.3
