Moravian Sending 18 Student-Athletes to ECAC DIII Track & Field Championships
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Moravian has qualified 18 student-athletes, ten females and eight males, to compete at the 2012 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. on Thursday and Friday, May 17th and 18th.

Both of the Greyhounds squads won their fifth consecutive Landmark Conference Championships on April 29th.
On the women's side, junior Micah Leonard (York, Pa./William Penn HS) will be competing in two individual events. Leonard qualified in the long jump with a leap of 5.61 meters (18 feet, five inches) and the triple jump at 11.76 meters (38 feet, seven inches).
In the field events, senior Abby Schaffer (Easton, Pa./Easton HS) will be competing in the pole vault after qualifying with a height of 4.22 meters (13 feet, ten inches), which is the top height in NCAA Division III history.. Freshman Hailey Kester (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury HS) will also compete in the pole vault with a height of 3.49 meters (11 feet, 5 ¼ inches) while freshman Dana Fineman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central HS) enters the ECAC meet at a height of 3.30 meters (ten feet, ten inches).
In the track events, senior Lisa Williamson (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson West Lawn HS) is participating in two individual events. Williamson qualified in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.78 seconds, and the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.87. Classmate Cadee Rockwell (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson West Lawn HS) is also taking part in two individual events after qualifying for the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:29.87 and the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:46.34.
Freshman Brielle Sutter (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook HS) will be taking part in the 200 meter dash after posting a time of 26.02 earlier this year and the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.41. Classmate Morgan Redmond (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon HS) qualified for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.39 and the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.60. Senior Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove HS) will be competing in the 800 meter run with a qualifying time of 2:19.24.
The women's team will also be sending two relay teams to the ECAC meet. Williamson, Sutter, Redmond and freshman Brianna Wright (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin HS) will run the 4x100-meter relay with a qualifying time of 49.54 seconds, and the same quartet in entered in the 4x400-meter relay with a school record time of 3:58.31.
On the men's side, senior's Timothy Layng (Canton, Pa./Canton HS) and Nicco Dalpiaz (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy HS) are competing in the pole vault. Layng has a qualifying height of 5.00 meters (16 feet, 4 ¾ inches) while Dalpiaz has a height of 4.85 meters (15 feet, 11 inches). Dalpiaz is also entered in the long jump with a qualifying distance of 6.81 meters (22 feet, 4 ¼ inches).
Also competing in the field events are, sophomore Kristopher Joint (Bethlehem, Pa./Parkland HS) and senior Travis King (Wilmington, Pa./Concord HS). Joint qualified for the triple jump with a distance of 14.45 meters (47 feet, five inches) and the long jump with a leap of 6.85 meters (22 feet, 5 ¾ inches) while King will compete in the triple jump with a qualifying distance of 14.41 meters (47 feet, 3 ½ inches).
In the track events, freshman Dillon Farrell (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon HS) is qualified for the 10,000 meter run with a time of 31:12.63 and the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:56.85. Senior Matthew Lutcza (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley HS) is also competing in the 1,500 meter run with a qualifying time of 3:57.09 while classmate Steve Ambrosi (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills HS) qualified for the 800 meter run with a time of 1:52.87.
Moravian is also sending its 4x100-meter relay squad of Dalpiaz, King, Layng and senior Kyle D'Angelo (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern HS) that has a qualifying time of 43.02 seconds.
The ECAC meet is the final qualifying event for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Claremont Mudd Scripps Colleges in Claremont, California on May 24th-26th.
Beginning this year, the top 20 men and top 22 women in each event plus the top 16 relay teams will enter the event. Entering the ECAC meet, the Greyhounds have six student-athletes currently high enough to compete next week – Schaffer and Layng in the pole vault, Dalpiaz in the decathlon, Leonard in the triple jump and senior Gary Zack (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood HS) and sophomore Timothy Lorah (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex HS) in the javelin. The rest of Moravian's competitors at the ECAC meet will be looking to improve their marks enough to make the national meet.
