Moravian Men Finish 6th at Virginia Swashbuckle
CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team opened its 2012 outdoor season with a sixth place finish of 11 teams at the University of Virginia Team Swashbuckle Saturday.
CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team opened its 2012 outdoor season with a sixth place finish of 11 teams at the University of Virginia Team Swashbuckle Saturday. The Greyhounds earned 58.5 points as the only NCAA Division III team in the meet while Army finished first with 147.5 points and the host Cavaliers were second with 144 points.
Moravian had one individual champion, nine ECAC qualifiers and 11 individual performances rank in the top 50 on the 2012 Track & Field Results Reporting System list to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Those ranked in the top 20 at the end of the season will compete at the national meet.
Senior Timothy Layng won the pole vault, clearing an ECAC, school record and top height on the TFRRS list at 4.91 meters (16 feet, 1 1/4 inches). Senior Nicco Dalpiaz was third in the pole vault, clearing an ECAC qualifying height of 4.56 meters (14 feet, 11 1/2 inches), now tied for eighth on the TFRRS list, and he was 14th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.88 seconds, which is 37th on the TFRRS list.
Senior Gary Zack, the defending national champion in the javelin, was second in the event, and he jumped to the top of the TFRRS list with an ECAC qualifying throw of 67.32 meters (220 feet, ten inches), the second best throw in school history. Sophomore Timothy Lorah was third in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 61.42 meters (201 feet, six inches), which is fifth on the TFRRS list while junior Tyler Potterton finished seventh with an ECAC qualifying toss of 56.48 meters (185 feet, four inches) that is 19th on the TFRRS list.
Sophomore Kristopher Joint placed third in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 13.73 meters (45 feet, 1/2 inch), which is fourth on the TFRRS list, and Joint was sixth in the long jump at 6.19 meters (20 feet, 3 3/4 inches). Junior Travis King placed fifth in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 13.44 meters (44 feet, 1 1/4 inches), which is tied for 16th on the TFRRS list, while junior Jonathan Heberling took sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.89 meters (six feet, 2 1/4 inches), which is tied for 22nd on the TFRRS list.
On the track, senior Steve Ambrosi was fourth in the 800-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:52.96, which is third on the TFRRS list and the eighth fastest time in school history. Freshman Dillon Farrell placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 14:57.30, which is third on the TFRRS list, while junior Donald Noble was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:46.40, 11th on the TFRRS list and ninth best in school history. Senior Kyle D'Angelo was 14th in the 200-meter dash in 22.77 seconds, which is tied for 45th on the TFRRS list.

Moravian will return to action on Saturday, March 31 when the team travels to the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.
