TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University junior Gavin Labbadia, sophomore Roman Farhad and freshmen Enzo Guarda and Cris Calfat Jabra have been selected to the 2026 Landmark Men's Tennis All-Conference Second Team while sophomore Joey Kelly was named to the Honorable Mention squad in singles and Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas and her assistants repeated as the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Coaching Staff of the Year.
Freitas and assistant coaches Dylan Westmeyer, Peter Demyan, Nicholas Espinoza, Eiman Nazif and Lauren Steinert have guided the Greyhounds to a 15-5 overall record and a 9-0 slate in the Landmark Conference regular season to garner the top seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Hounds defeated fourth seed Drew University, 4-0, in the semifinals before defeating third seed Goucher College, 4-3, in the Championship as the Greyhounds won the program's first-ever Landmark Conference title. Moravian earned its first-ever berth to the 2026 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament and will face Baruch (N.Y.) College in the opening round at Tufts (Mass.) University on Friday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. Freitas has a 69-26 record leading the Moravian men over the last four years.
"Congratulations to Mariana and her entire staff on their Men's Tennis Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year honor. Mariana sets the standard daily through her development of student-athletes, both on and off the court," stated Associate Director of Athletics Brynn McNamara. "They have led the 2025-26 men's program to an undefeated Landmark regular season, the first-ever Men's Tennis Landmark Conference title, and the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Mariana, Dylan, Peter, Nick, Eiman, and Lauren have committed to the values and mission of the program and this honor is well-deserved."
Guarda made the Second Team in singles, and he is 11-6 on the year including a 6-3 mark at first singles and a 5-1 slate at second singles. He was 6-2 in the Landmark Conference regular season.
"Coming in as a freshman, Enzo made an immediate impact on our program, stepping right into the top of the lineup," noted Freitas. "He had a very strong first year and proved he can compete at a high level. We are excited to see how much more he can continue to grow."
Labbadia earned a spot on the Second Team in singles. He has posted a 14-5 record this season while playing first, second, third and fourth singles. Labbadia has an 8-1 mark at third singles, and he is 4-1 at fourth singles where he clinched the Landmark Conference title for the Hounds. Labbadia, who was 8-1 in the Landmark Conference regular season, has a 49-8 career singles slate.
"I'm really happy to see Gavin finally earn All-Conference honors in singles, it's well deserved," commented Freitas. "He's been a steady and reliable player for us, and this was another strong year. His consistency and approach to matches have been a big part of our success."
Guarda and Jabra garnered a spot on the Second Team in doubles, and the duo is 13-10 on the year. Guarda and Jabra are 8-7 at first doubles, and they were 5-2 in the Landmark Conference regular season.
"For two freshmen, Cris and Enzo showed a great understanding of doubles from the start," Freitas explained. "Having played together before really showed in their chemistry and decision making on court. Competing at No. 1 doubles as freshmen is not easy, but they handled it well and had a very strong season."
Labbadia and Farhad made the Second Team in doubles, and the tandem has a 17-7 slate this season including an 11-6 mark at second doubles. Labbadia and Farhad were 5-2 in the Landmark Conference regular season.
"Roman and Gavin complement each other really well on the court," stated Freitas. "They have strong chemistry, communicate effectively, and bring a steady presence to every match. They put together a very solid season and were a key part of our doubles success."
Kelly, who made the Honorable Mention squad for the second straight season, has posted a 15-2 singles mark this season while seeing action at third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Kelly was 7-0 in Landmark Conference matches, and he is 27-5 in his career. This spring, Kelly is 15-9 in doubles action including a 9-4 slate with senior Shayaan Farhad, a 5-4 mark with senior Ryan Burke and a 1-1 record with Roman Farhad.
"Joey earning this recognition for the second year in a row is a testament to his growth and consistency," Freitas said. "His game continues to improve, and he's become a very tough competitor. On top of that, he's just a fun player to watch, and going undefeated in conference play makes this honor even more deserving."
