Moravian Tops WestConn in Landmark Conference Action

How It Happened
- The Hounds received the opening kickoff and drove 67 yards in ten plays with sophomore quarterback Declan McCarthy finding sophomore wide receiver Chris Brown with a five-yard touchdown pass on third down play. Sophomore Jack Corrigan split the uprights with the extra-point to give the Blue & Grey a 7-0 lead just over four minutes into the game
- Moravian would get the ball right back as senior running back Camron Tinajero forced a fumble on the kickoff that sophomore wide receiver Josh Ludlow recovered at the WestConn nine-yard line. However, the Hounds would have to settle for a 28-yard field goal attempt from Corrigan that sailed wide left to keep the score at 7-0
- The Wolves first offensive possession saw the squad move into Moravian territory before junior defensive back Antonio Bowen ended the drive with an interception at the Hounds' ten-yard line
- The Blue & Grey picked up three first downs before McCarthy was intercepted at the WestConn 25-yard line
- After a 27-yard return on the interception, the Wolves needed eight plays to go 48 yards into the endzone on a five-yard run to knot the score at 7-7 with 13:27 left in the first half
- Moravian's next possession ended with another turnover as freshman running back Dorian Thomas was stripped of the ball at midfield
- WestConn turned the miscue into a six-play, 60-yard touchdown drive, finding the endzone with a 20-yard rush to take a 14-7 lead with 9:26 to play in the second quarter
- The Greyhounds moved the ball into WestConn territory before turning the ball over on downs while the Wolves also turned the ball over on downs on their next possession
- The Hounds took over on the WestConn 43-yard line. Seven plays later McCarthy connected with Brown again on another five-yard touchdown pass with Corrigan's extra-point tying the game at 14-14 with just 37 seconds left in the half
- The Wolves countered right away with a 41-yard pass to get into the red zone and scoring in just four plays on a five-yard touchdown pass with ten seconds on the clock to take a 21-14 lead into the intermission
- WestConn opened the second half with ball but would fumble on the third play on a missed handoff that graduate student linebacker Declan Coors recovered
- Moravian ran seven plays to cover the 19-yards to the endzone with Ludlow catching a nine-yard touchdown pass from McCarthy. Corrigan's extra-point knotted the game again at 21-21 with 11:28 remaining in the third quarter
- The Hounds executed an onside kick with Ludlow recovering Corrigan's kick at midfield. However, Moravian punted after three plays
- The Greyhounds defense forced WestConn into a punt as well
- The Blue & Grey moved back ahead with a five-play, 68-yard drove as Tinajero found the endzone on a three-yard run with 6:54 left in the third with Corrigan's PAT making it 28-21
- After the Wolves punted, Moravian drove down into the endzone before McCarthy was intercepted at the one-yard line late in the third quarter
- The Hounds got the ball back after seven plays as senior defensive back Lorenzo Feliciano made an interception at the Moravian 25-yard line
- The Blue & Grey would get inside the ten-yard line again before turning the ball over on downs at the Wolves' five-yard line
- WestConn punted after just three plays
- Moravian found the endzone once more on the next drive as sophomore running back Jed Bendekovits burst through a hole and raced out the near sideline and 25 yards into the end zone. Corrigan added the extra-point for a 35-21 lead with 5:50 to go
- The Wolves turned the ball over on downs while the Blue & Grey punted on the next possessions
- WestConn got within a touchdown at 35-28 with 1:57 remaining on a three-yard scoring run
- The Wolves attempted an onside kick that sophomore linebacker Malachi McNeil-Harrison recovered and returned 30 yards
- Moravian ran four plays before turning the ball over on downs with just 17 seconds remaining. WestConn got off three plays; however, two were sacks by the Greyhounds to end the contest
Inside the Numbers
- The Greyhounds' offense registered a season-high 455 yards of offense while running 85 plays and controlling the clock for just over 36 minutes. Moravian gained 309 yards in the air and 146 on the ground
- McCarthy was 21-for-34 for a career-high 309 yards to go with three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions, and he ran for ten yards on nine carries
- Junior wide receiver Avery Koser caught five passes for 85 yards while Brown had four catches for 56 yards and two scores. Ludlow added four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown to go with three kickoff returns for 56 yards while sophomore Gavyn Gennarelli had four catches for 44 yards
- Freshman wide receiver Andrei Matthews pulled in one pass for 56 yards while graduate student tight end Jalen Jones had one catch for six yards
- Bendekovits ran for 105 yards, his first 100-yard game in college, on 31 carries to go with his touchdown, and he also caught one pass for 13 yards
- Tinajero added five yards and a touchdown on two rushing attempts to go with his forced fumble and a pair of special teams tackles while senior running back Isiah Rico had six carries for 13 yards and one reception for seven yards. Thomas finished with two carries for 18 yards
- Corrigan punted just twice in the game for an average of 34.0 yards, putting both punts inside the 20-yard line, and he added five kickoffs for an average of 53.6 yards
- Graduate student running back Joey Richmond returned one kickoff for 11 yards
- Junior defensive back Aidan Lane led the Moravian defense with five tackles while senior defensive back Shea Endean, freshman defensive lineman Mitch Nowroski and senior linebacker Clay Basile all had four tackles with Nowroski adding two tackles for loss and a sack and Endean making one tackle for loss
- McNeil-Harrison contributed three tackle to go with his 30-yard kickoff return while freshman defensive back Kam White, senior linebacker Ethan O'Neill, sophomore defensive back Antonio Rivera, Coors and sophomore defensive lineman Josh Doane all posted three tackles. White and O'Neil each had a tackle for loss while White, Rivera and Coors each had a pass break-up with Coors also recovering a fumble
