TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University senior defender James Panico has been selected as the 2026 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Lacrosse.
The Landmark Conference selects 23 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the ten spring honorees are being announced this week.
"James is a great student-athlete," commented Head Coach Dave Carty. "He works hard in the classroom and on the field. He balanced an extremely hard schedule with being one of our most dedicated players. This award is a great acknowledgement of all of his hard work."
This spring, Panico helped the Greyhounds to a 10-7 record and a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament. Panico was honored on the 2026 Landmark All-Conference Honorable Mention squad. Panico recorded 28 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers while helping the Hounds allow just 9.59 goals per match this spring.
In his career, Panico registered 77 ground balls and 33 caused turnovers in 47 career contests as he missed the 2024 season with an injury
Off the field, Panico made Moravian's Dean's Honors List six semesters as well as being a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. He will be a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. Panico graduated with a bachelor's degree in health science on a pre-physical therapy track as he posted a career 3.75 grade point average. Panico was selected to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Men's At-Large Academic All-District Team, and off the field, Panico stayed active in campus and community initiatives throughout his time at Moravian, participating in events such as Boo at the Zoo, Moravian Heritage Day, and The Hidden Opponent in support of mental health awareness.
Panico is Moravian's 47th Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and he is the first men's lacrosse student-athlete to be honored.
