Greyhounds Defeat Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) in Florida
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. --- The Moravian University softball squad defeated Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, 9-1 in six innings, at The Spring Games Friday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a walk and senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys followed with a walk. After a fly ball by senior left fielder Sage Snyder moved both runners into scoring position, freshman designated player Kyra Holtje ripped a two-RBI single to center field to score Walter and Gawrys
- The Gusties countered with run in the bottom of the first to cut the Hounds' edge to 2-1
- The Blue & Grey stretched the advantage to 3-1 with run in the top of the third frame. Snyder reached on an error, stole second base and scored when graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore reached on another error
- Moravian scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 7-1. Snyder, Holtje and Elmore had singles to load the bases before junior third baseman Sydney Andrews connected on an RBI single to score Snyder. Sophomore center fielder Leah Chladny connected on a two-RBI single to send Holtje and Elmore home, and Andrews raced across the plate on a wild pitch
- The Hounds tacked on two runs in the sixth for a 9-1 advantage. Snyder drew a walk and Holtje reached on a fielder's choice before a sacrifice bunt from Elmore moved the runners up. Andrews followed with a two-RBI single to score Snyder and Holtje
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian registered nine hits with Andrews going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run
- Holtje was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs while Chladny went 1-for-2 with two RBIs
- Snyder had one hit and scored three runs while Elmore contributed a hit, a run and an RBI
- Walter added a hit and a run while Gawrys scored once
- Junior Sarah DeStefano started in the circle and struck out three batters to improve to 4-0 on the season
