No. 16 Moravian Shuts Out Misericordia Twice
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 16 Moravian University softball squad swept visiting Misericordia University in non-conference action at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday with a pair of shutouts, winning 3-0 and 8-0 in six innings.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the opener as junior catcher Marcie Silberman drove a home run into the wind in center field for her team-leading 10th homer of the season and the 32nd of her career
- The Blue & Grey made it 2-0 with a run in the second inning. Junior third baseman Sydney Andrews hit a one-out single while senior right fielder Jessica Forder followed with a double. Senior shortstop Holly Walter drove in Andrews with an RBI single
- Moravian scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Andrews reached on an error and eventually raced home on an RBI sacrifice fly by Walter
- Junior pitcher Sarah DeStefano allowed just one hit, coming in the seventh inning, and a pair of walks while striking out eight batters to improve to 13-1 in the circle this spring with her seventh shutout of the year
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds took a quick 1-0 in the first inning of the second game as well. Walter led off the inning with a double, and she scored on an RBI single from Silberman
- The contest was a pitcher's duel until the fifth frame when Moravian added two more runs for a 3-0 advantage. Walter singled to get the inning started, and she scampered home when Silberman reached on a throwing error. Graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on an RBI double from senior left fielder Sage Snyder
- The Greyhounds pushed five runs home in the sixth to get to the NCAA run rule to end the contest. Andrews led off with a walk while DeStefano singled. After sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan walked and sophomore Madelin Cooper came into run for DeStefano, Walter drew an RBI walk to push Andrews home. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys cleared the bases with a three-RBI double, and she scored the final run on an RBI sacrifice fly by Elmore
- Junior pitcher Natalie Otto tossed her first shutout of the season, scattering four hits and a walk to go with four strikeouts as she improved to 2-1 on the year
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian knocked out 18 hits in the two games with Walter going 3-for-6 with three runs, a double and three RBIs
- Silberman was 3-for-7 with a run, two RBIs and a homer while Elmore went 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI
- DeStefano and Forder were each 2-for-3 while Andrews had a 2-for-5 day with three runs
- Snyder was also 2-for-5 with an RBI and a double while Gawrys had one hit, a run, a double and three RBIs
- Cooper and Morgan both crossed the plate once
