Silberman Powers No. 18 Greyhounds to Victory over Worcester State (Mass.) in Opening Round of NCAA DIII Regional at Blue & Grey Field
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 18 Moravian University softball squad recorded a 10-2, five-inning victory over Worcester State (Mass.) University on the opening day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Bethlehem, Pa. Regional at Blue & Grey Field.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds wasted no time taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys hit a one-out single before junior catcher Marcie Silberman launched a two-run homer to left center field that landed at least 30 feet beyond the fence. The home run was Silberman's 15th of the season and the 37th of her career as she broke school and Landmark Conference career record set by Brooke Wehr '22
- The Blue & Grey stretched the edge to 3-0 with a run in the bottom of the second inning as junior pitcher Sarah DeStefano reached on a fielder's choice and eventually raced home on an RBI sacrifice fly to center field off Gawrys' bat
- Moravian tacked on two runs in the bottom of the third frame for a 5-0 advantage. Graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore led off with a double, and she came across the plate on a one-out RBI double from junior third baseman Sydney Andrews
- The Lancers pushed a run home in the top of the fourth to get onto the scoreboard and cut the deficit to 5-1
- The Hounds countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to stretch the edge to 8-1. Senior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a solo home run to left field, her first homer of the season and seventh of her career. Gawrys drew a walk before Silberman connected on another two-run homer, this one to center field to give her 16 homers on the year to tie her single season record set last season and 38 for her career
- Worcester State scored another run in the top of the fifth to make it 8-2
- Moravian finished off the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to reach the NCAA eight-run rule. Sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan led off with an infield single to third while Walter had an infield single to shortstop. Gawrys drew another walk before Silberman laced a two-RBI single through the left side to score Morgan and Walter to end the contest
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 14 hits in the game to tie the single season program record with 435 hits in 2025
- Silberman led the Greyhounds at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two runs, a pair of homers and six RBIs
- Walter also had a 3-for-4 game with two runs, a home and an RBI while Elmore posted a 2-for-3 game with a run and a double
- Gawrys was 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI while Andrews added a this, a run, a double and an RBI
- DeStefano registered a hit, a run and an RBI while Morgan added a hit and a run
- Senior left fielder Sage Snyder and sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje each had one hit
- DeStefano earned another win in the circle to improve to 21-2 on the year, and she recorded four strikeouts while not allowing a walk
