No. 17 Greyhounds Sweep Wilkes to Remain Undefeated in Landmark Conference Action
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The No. 17 Moravian University softball team swept host Wilkes University, 8-0 in six innings and 6-1, to remain undefeated in Landmark Conference action Monday.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Junior catcher Marcie Silberman reached on a fielder's choice with two outs, and sophomore Madelin Cooper came in to pinch run. Graduate student Ajala Elmore connected on a single and a wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position before senior left fielder Sage Snyder ripped a two-RBI single to score Cooper and Elmore. The run for Elmore was the 100th of her career as she became the third player this season and the 17th in program history to reach the milestone. Sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje connected on an RBI double to chase Snyder home while Holtje raced home on an error on a ball hit by junior third baseman Sydney Andrews
- The Blue & Grey added four more runs in the top of the sixth to seal the victory. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys and Silberman hit one-out singles before Elmore hit an RBI infield single to score Gawrys. Snyder followed with an RBI single to bring in Silberman while Holtje ripped a two-RBI single that scored Elmore and Snyder. With the run, Snyder joined Elmore, Gawrys and senior shortstop Holly Walter in the 100-run club as the 18th member
- Junior Sarah DeStefano was the starter in the circle for the opener, and she scattered four hits while striking out five batters for her sixth shutout of the season as she improved to 12-1. The victory also gave DeStefano 30 career wins with ten shutouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the nightcap. Walter led off with a single and Gawrys walked before Silberman connected on a three-run homer. The home run was Silberman's team-leading ninth of the season and the 31st of her career as she moved within six homers of breaking the school and Landmark Conference career marks
- Moravian doubled the advantage to 6-0 with three runs in the third frame. Walter and Gawrys began the inning with a single and a walk again before both scored on an error on a ball hit by Elmore. Snyder singled, and after Elmore was out at the plate on a fielder's choice, Andrews ripped an RBI single to chase Snyder home
- The Colonels scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning
- Holtje improved to 7-0 in the circle as she recorded one strikeout in six innings. Junior Natalie Otto had one strikeout in the final inning
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian knocked out 22 hits in the doubleheader with Walter going 5-for-7 with two runs
- Snyder went 4-for-8 with three RBIs, three runs and a double while Silberman was 3-for-7 with two runs, three RBIs and a homer
- Elmore registered three hits, two runs, an RBI and a double while Andrews had two hits and an RBI
- Holtje recorded two hits, a run and three RBIs while Gawrys scored three runs and added one hit
- Freshman Kaley Hoffman had a pinch hit in her only at-bat while sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan added one hit
