No. 12 Greyhounds Sweep DeSales in Final Non-Conference Action of the Season
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 12 Moravian University softball team swept visiting DeSales University, 8-0 in six innings and 6-0, in the Hounds’ final non-conference doubleheader of the season Thursday afternoon at Blue & Grey Field.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Senior shortstop Holly Walter led off with a single and stole second base, the 52nd steal of her career to break the school record of 51 set by Tanya Thear Hood '95. Walter raced home from second on an infield single by graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore. After Elmore stole second, senior left fielder Sage Snyder connected on an RBI triple to right center to send Elmore across the plate
- The Blue & Grey tacked on three runs in the bottom of the second frame for a 5-0 advantage. Junior third baseman Sydney Andrews and senior right fielder Jessica Forder had singles to start the inning. Walter hit an RBI groundout to score Andrews while Forder raced home on an RBI triple from senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys. Junior catcher Marcie Silberman beat out an infield single to pick up an RBI as Gawrys touched the plate
- Moravian scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-0. Andrews walked with two outs, and Forder followed with a single. Freshman pinch hitter Kaley Hoffman delivered a two-RBI single that brought in both Andrews and Forder
- The Hounds finished off the scoring with a run in the sixth frame for the NCAA run rule. Gawrys started the inning with a walk before sophomore Cassandra Farrell came in to pinch run. After an out, Elmore ripped an RBI double off the fence to score Farrell
- Junior Sarah DeStefano tossed her ninth shutout of the year as she improved to 16-1 while allowing just one hit to go with six strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth in the second contest with five runs. DeStefano, playing in right field, connected on a two-out single to right field for her 100th career hit, making her the 58th in program history to the milestone and the sixth active player to get to 100 career hits. Hoffman followed with an RBI double as DeStefano raced around the bases to give Moravian the lead. After a bunt single from Morgan, Walter ripped a two-RBI single to score Hoffman and Morgan. Gawrys then hit a two-run homer to left field. It was Gawrys' first homer of the season and the 12th of her career, and Gawrys also became the 13th player in program history to surpass 100 career RBIs, now with 102 to tie for tenth
- Moravian added a run in the sixth inning to finish off the scoring. Walter hit a two-out double and scored on an RBI single from Gawrys
- Junior Natalie Otto made the start in the circle and tossed a five-hit shutout with no walks and nine strikeouts
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian knocked out 23 hits in the twinbill with Gawrys going 4-for-6 with two runs, four RBIs, a homer and two triples
- Walter went 3-for-6 with three runs, three RBIs, a triple, a double and three stolen bases to push her school record to 54 while Andrews was 3-for-5 with two runs
- Snyder posted two hits, a triple and an RBI while Silberman contributed two hits and an RBI
- Elmore registered two hits, two RBIs, a double and a run while Morgan had pair of hits with a run
- Hoffman was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run and a double while Forder was 2-for-3 with two runs
- DeStefano recorded one hit for her milestone and scored once while Farrell had a run and a stolen base
