No. 23 Moravian Rallies in Game Two for Sweep of Franklin & Marshall
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 23 Moravian University softball squad won the opening game 3-0 and rallied from a 6-3 deficit for an 11-6 victory in the second contest to sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Franklin & Marshall College at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the opener as junior catcher Marcie Silberman powered a solo home run into the wind in left center field for her sixth homer of the season and 28th career home run
- The Blue & Grey added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish off the scoring in the opener. Junior third baseman Sydney Andrews reached on a fielder choice before moving to third on a single from senior right fielder Jessica Forder. Sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan followed with a two-RBI triple into the right field corner and Andrews and Forder crossed the plate
- Junior Sarah DeStefano tossed her fourth shutout of the spring in the contest as she scattered five hits and three walks to go with seven strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Diplomats scored first in the second contest with a run in the top of the second inning for a 1-0 lead
- Moravian answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to move ahead 3-1. Elmore reached on an error and would score on another throwing error as F&M tried to pick her off third base as senior left fielder Sage Snyder stole second after a walk. Morgan had a bunt single and stole second before DeStefano, now in right field, had a two-RBI double to left center as Snyder and Morgan scored
- Franklin & Marshall pulled within a run in the top of the third, and the Diplomats plated four runs in the top of the fourth for a 6-3 advantage
- The Greyhounds got one run back in the bottom of the fourth as sophomore pitcher/designated player Kyra Holtje led off with a solo home run to left field, her third homer of the year
- The Blue & Grey offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 10-6 lead. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys led off with a double while Elmore connected on an RBI double with one out to score Gawrys. Holtje drew a walk and there was another out before Andrews ripped a two-RBI double down the right field line to bring in Elmore and Holtje. Morgan followed with an RBI single to send Andrews across the plate while DeStefano added an RBI single that scored Morgan. Gawrys finished off with inning with an RBI single that chased DeStefano home
- Moravian added a run in the bottom of the sixth to finish off the scoring as Elmore doubled, Snyder walked and Andrews added another RBI single to score Elmore
- Holtje made the start in the circle and had one strikeout in four innings of action while junior Natalie Otto tossed three innings of one-hit ball to garner her first win of the season. Otto also struck out seven batters to become the 17th pitcher in program history to record 100 career strikeouts, now with 101
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 19 hits in the doubleheader with Elmore going 4-for-6 with three runs, an RBI and two doubles
- Andrews had a 3-for-6 day with two runs three RBIs and a double while Morgan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs and a triple
- DeStefano was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and a run Gawrys posted a 2-for-5 afternoon with a run, an RBI and a double
- Silberman had one hit, her homer for a run and an RBI while Holtje added a hit, two runs, a homer and an RBI
- Forder recorded a hit and a run while freshman Kaley Hoffman had a pinch-hit triple and senior shortstop Holly Walter had one hit
- Snyder scored once in the two contests
