Hounds Use Second Half Run to Defeat Elizabethtown
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men’s basketball squad used an 8-0 run midway through the second half to lead the way to an 84-77 victory over Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds netted the first five points of the night as junior guard Joel Baez drained a three-pointer and senior forward Marquis Ratcliff tipped in a rebound. The Hounds led 8-4 after a three-pointer from senior guard Chad Kratzer when Elizabethtown went on a 10-0 run to build a 14-8 edge. Ratcliff had a three-point play to stop the run briefly before the Blue Jays stretched the advantage to eight points at 19-11 with 13 minutes left in the first half, and Elizabethtown was up 28-16 midway through the half
- Moravian started to close the gap and made it a five-point game, 33-28, after two free throws from Ratcliff at the 6:06 mark. The Blue Jays still had a seven-point edge, 38-31, with just over four minutes remaining in the half when the Greyhounds got a pair of three-pointers from Kratzer and a lay-up off a steal from Baez to move back on top 39-38 just over a minute later. The squads would head to the intermission tied at 44-44 after two late free throws from Ratcliff
- Kratzer opened the second half with a lay-up while Elizabethtown built a 53-48 lead at the 16:44 mark. The Blue & Grey tied the score for the sixth time at 53-53 on a lay-up by Ratcliff. The teams were tied three more times, the final time at 59-59 when Moravian ran off eight straight points, capped off with a Ratcliff lay-up to lead 67-59 with just under ten minutes remaining
- The Hounds pushed the lead to as many as nine points on a three-pointer from freshman guard Nico Pulieri while Elizabethtown got back within two points, 79-77, with 1:22 left. Ratcliff added a lay-up and a free throw while sophomore guard JJ Kolumber made two free throws to seal the victory
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players score in double figures led by Ratcliff with 28 points to go with 12 rebounds, three assists, and four blocked shots. The double-double was Ratcliff's sixth of the season and 33rd of his career. Ratcliff became the third player in program history to reach 1,800 career points with 1,803, and he is just one rebound shy of becoming the third Hound to reach 800 career rebounds
- Kratzer contributed 23 points, five rebounds, and nine assists while Baez tossed in 14 points with four boards and one block
- Sophomore guard Dylan Costa netted seven points to go with three boards while senior forward Liam Cummiskey added five points and eight rebounds
- Pulieri recorded four points and two steals while Kolumber had two points and two boards and junior guard George Cutler added three rebounds, two assists and a point
- The Greyhounds contributed 13 points from the bench
- The Hounds were 27-for-66 from the field, 10-for-37 on three-pointers and 20-of-28 at the foul line, with 34 points in the paint
