TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University sophomore Kennedy Simons has been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for her performance last week.
Simons won the triple jump with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championship qualifying mark at 10.93 meters (35-10.5) at the Kutztown University Golden Bear Invitational, and she also captured first in the long jump with a leap of 5.18 meters (17-0) to help Moravian to second place team finish.
"Kennedy has made enormous leaps this year, most notably in her power and acceleration," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "You can see it in her drive phases in all her events, and it has translated to nearly a two-foot PR in her triple jump, and about two feet ahead of where she was a year ago at this time in the long jump. We're really excited about her hurdles where you can see her acceleration to the first hurdle as good as our top hurdler, she just needs more consistency over the first three hurdles which is likely an adjustment to this renewed power and explosiveness she's seeing. She's still just scratching the surface of what she's capable of, and as exciting as it was for her to nearly break 11.0m on Friday night, we honestly think that's just the beginning for her."
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, February 28 at the 2026 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University with action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
