Smurla Captures 10K Title as Moravian First after Opening Day at 2026 Landmark Championships
HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s outdoor track & field squad posted one event title and registered three All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying marks on the first day of the 2026 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday being hosted by Juniata College.

The Hounds hold an 11.5-point lead the eight teams that have scored with 72.5 points while The University of Scranton is second with 61 points. Susquehanna University is third with 36 points while Elizabethtown College is fourth with 24 points.
Moravian Event Winners
- Senior Tara Smurla won the 10,000-meter run with a meet record and AARTFC qualifying time of 36:23.33 to score ten points
Moravian Scoring Finishes
- Sophomore Tessa Hopkins was the runner-up in the pole vault at 2.80 meters (9-2.25) to earn eight points while sophomore Annika Petyk was tied for fifth at 2.65 meters (8-8.25) for 3.5 points and freshman Maddy Bennyhoff took eighth at 2.50 meters (8-2.5) for one point
- Sophomore Jessica Heydt finished second in the hammer throw with an AARTFC qualifying toss of 46.62 meters (152-11) to garner eight points while sophomore Naaliyah Slater was third at 41.81 meters (137-2) to score six points and senior Margie Rayne took sixth at 40.91 meters (134-2) for three points
- Sophomore Emma Shafnisky was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.21 meters (17-1.25) to net eight points while senior Ali Haefele was fifth at 4.95 meters (16-3) for four points and sophomore Kennedy Simons finished seventh at 4.93 meters (16-2.25) to earn two points
- Rayne took third in the shot put with a toss of 11.51 meters (37-9.5) to record six points while senior Karalyn Vashey placed fourth at 11.42 meters (37-5.75) for five points
- Junior Kayla O'Neil was placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run in a personal best time of 4:53.03 to score five points
- Senior Tori Champagne finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 39:32.63 to earn three points
Moravian Preliminary Results
- Shafnisky had the fastest qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles with an AARTFC qualifying time of 15.18 seconds to move onto Sunday's final
- Senior Shai Knight finished tenth in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in 12.78 seconds
