Smurla Honored as Moravian Sodexo Student-Athlete of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior Tara Smurla of the Moravian University’s women’s indoor track & field team has been honored the Sodexo Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior Tara Smurla of the Moravian University's women's indoor track & field team has been honored the Sodexo Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
Smurla was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run at the Hounds Classic in Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse with a school record, Landmark Conference record and All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying time of 10:00.12, surpassing the school mark set by All-American Heidi Wolfsberger in 2002. Smurla also finished second in the 5,000-meter run with an AARTFC qualifying time of 18:39.38. Smurla earned her third Sodexo honor of the year after garnering the award twice during the fall and cross country season.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action with a pair of meets on Saturday, January 31 with some of the squad heading to the Ithaca (N.Y.) College Bomber Invitational and the rest of the team competing in the Alvernia University Plex Shootout.
The Sodexo Student-Athlete of the Week is selected on Mondays by Moravian's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Sodexo will be giving each week's winner a free Starbucks drink at DeLight's Café.
