Four Greyhounds and Both Track & Field Programs Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Moravian University had four student-athletes named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Athletes, and both the men’s and women’s track & field squads were honored as an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA for the 2024-25 season.

Moravian's individual selections were graduate student Cole Stanchina from the men's team and senior Abby Giamoni and juniors Tara Smurla and Karalyn Vashey from the women's squad. To earn All-Academic individual honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have competed in the 2025 NCAA Indoor or Outdoor National Championships or have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
Stanchina was 47th in the 10,000-meter run with a school and Landmark Conference record time of 30:29.69 at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12 while Smurla was 40th outdoors in the 10,000-meter run in 36:33.52 at Bucknell. Giamoni was 41st on the indoor list in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.84 seconds at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships on March 7 while Vashey ranked 30th indoors in the 20-pound weight throw with a school record toss of 16.57 meters (54-4.5) at the AARTFC Indoor Championships.
The men's squad recorded a 3.28 cumulative GPA for the year while the women's team maintained a 3.56 cumulative GPA after the year. To be considered an All-Academic Team, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or greater.
