Nine Greyhounds Garner 2026 USTFCCCA Women’s Outdoor All-Metro Region Accolades
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women’s track & field team has had nine student-athletes selected for 13 spots on the 2026 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region.
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women's track & field team has had nine student-athletes selected for 13 spots on the 2026 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region.
For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-8 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-8 relay team. The program must also be a member of the USTFCCCA. Moravian is part of the Metro Region.
Moravian had nine individual selections. Senior Tara Smurla was All-Region in both the 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter runs. Smurla had second-best time in the region of 35:15.92 in the 10,000-meter run at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic on April 11, and she had the six-best time in the region in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:42.45 at the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational at Princeton University on April 4.
Sophomore Emma Shafnisky earned All-Region in both the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. Shafnisky had the fourth-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles with a school record time of 14.44 seconds in the preliminaries at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Outdoor Championships at Ursinus College on May 13, and she had the region's best distance in the long jump at 5.79 meters (18-9.25) on the same day. Senior Ali Haefele was All-Region in the triple jump at the seventh-best distance of 11.06 meters (36-3.5) at the at the Landmark Conference Championships at Juniata College on May 2, and she was All-Region in the high jump at the eighth-ranked height of 1.58 meters (5-2.25) also at the Landmark Championships.
Senior Margie Rayne garnered All-Region in the discus with the region's sixth-ranked toss of 39.54 meters (129-9) at the Landmark Championships on May 2, and she also earned All-Region in the shot put with the seventh-best mark of 12.55 meters (41-2.25) at the Messiah University Invitational on April 11. Sophomore Jessica Heydt had the second-best distance in the region in the hammer throw with a school record toss of 49.82 meters (163-5) at the Lehigh University Carol & John Covert Classic on April 24 while senior Karalyn Vashey was eighth in the hammer throw at 44.37 meters (145-7) at Moravian's Coach Pollard Invitational on April 18.
Sophomore Kennedy Simons earned All-Region in the triple jump with the region's sixth-best mark of 11.29 meters (37-0.5) at the Coach P Invitational while senior Tori Champagne was eighth in the 10,000-meter run after a time of 39:32.62 at the Landmark Championships and junior Alexis Hockenberry had the seventh-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:51.25 at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
