Eleven Hounds Garner 2026 Women’s USTFCCCA Indoor All-Metro Region Accolades
NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women’s indoor track & field team had 11 student-athletes named as 2026 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honorees earning a total of 14 All-Metro Region honors.

The USTFCCCA is in its 11th year of naming All-Region selections for indoor and outdoor track & field at the NCAA Division III level after having All-Region honors in cross country for a number of years. New in 2026 for a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-8 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-8 relay team. Moravian is part of the Metro Region.
The Greyhounds had seven individuals and a relay squad named as All-Region honorees on the women's squad. Senior Tara Smurla garnered All-Region in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs. Smurla ran the third fastest time in the region in the 3K at 9:55.09 and the fourth-best time in the 5K at 17:24.56. Senior Margie Rayne was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.58 meters (41-3.25) and eighth in the 20-pound weight throw at 15.46 meters (50-8.75) while sophomore Emma Shafnisky was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.42 meters (17-9.5) and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in a school record time of 9.05 seconds.
Senior Karalyn Vashey had the best distance in the Metro Region in the 20-pound weight throw with a school record toss of 17.19 meters (56-4.75) while sophomore Jessica Heydt was fifth in the event at 15.74 meters (51-7.75) and senior Heather Adams was sixth at 15.65 meters (51-4.25). Sophomore Kennedy Simons was eighth in the region in the triple jump with a distance of 11.12 meters (36-5.75).
Moravian's 4x400-meter relay squad of senior Shai Knight, junior Rachele Grigoli and freshmen Ligia Parada Garcia and Morgan Tandy was seventh in the Metro Region with a time of 4:04.67.
