TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University senior Joe Allegro has garnered Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for his performance last week.
Allegro won the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 1:58.81 at the Moravian Blue & Grey Invitational at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
"We're extremely happy for Joe because this recognition is another reflection of the tremendous improvements he's made in the past four years," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "His fitness has clearly reached a new level highlighted by the enormous leaps he made in the fall. However, he has also steadily improved as a racer learning how to read races better, patiently feed off the field, and loading up for one bold move. Saturday was a perfect reflection of this. Another runner took the lead, and Joe methodically closed the gap and took advantage around 225m to go, when he felt the pace lag and he used his final kick. It was his first collegiate win, and a lifetime PR. To achieve an all-time PR in his first indoor race shows he's in store for a great season."
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 24 as Moravian hosts the Hounds Indoor Classic at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse with action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
