Greyhounds Top Albright for First Win of the 2025-26 Season
READING, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter to post a 77-64 victory at Albright College in non-conference action Friday evening as the Hounds earned their first win of the 2025-26 season.

How It Happened
- The Lions scored the first four points of the game before junior forward Grace Steffen sank a free throw to get the Greyhounds on the board. Albright pushed the edge to 5-1 while the Blue & Grey countered with an 8-0 run with sophomore guard Megan Elias hitting a jumper to give the Hounds a 9-5 lead with 5:36 left in the first quarter. The Lions retook a 10-9 edge before senior guard Jayda Cartagena connected on a jumper for an 11-10 advantage. Senior guard Juliana Vassallo drained a three-pointer to put Moravian ahead 14-12; however, Albright led 21-17 after ten minutes of action
- Junior guard Lizzie Lustig hit a free throw and a lay-up and Steffen added a lay-up as the Greyhounds netted the first five points of the second quarter to retake a 22-21 lead. Back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore guard Kylie Cabana and freshman guard Abby Hayes put the Blue & Grey up 28-23, and Moravian had a 33-27 edge after a three-pointer by Vassallo with 4:46 left in the half. The Lions countered with a 7-0 run to move back in front, 34-33. Elias and sophomore forward Kate Donaldson hit shots in the last 1:15 of the half to send the Hounds to the locker room with a 37-34 edge
- The Lions opened the second half with two baskets to take a 38-37 lead before Vassallo scored Moravian's first points of the third quarter. Lustig followed with a lay-up, and the Greyhounds held a 45-40 advantage when Lustig hit a lay-up at the 6:24 mark. Elias drained a three-pointer to give the Blue & Grey a 52-45 edge with four minutes to go in the quarter. After a timeout, Donaldson and Elias pushed the lead into double digits to 56-45. The Lions scored six of the final seven points of the quarter to cut the Moravian edge to 57-51 after 30 minutes of play
- Lustig began the fourth quarter with a jumper and sophomore guard Mallory Elias added a lay-up to put the Greyhounds up 61-53 before the Lions cut the score to 61-57. Vassallo and Cabana make baskets to ush the edge back to eight points, 67-59, with three and a half minutes remaining. Moravian finished the game with a 10-5 run including making five of six free throws in the final minute of the contest
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players in double figures led by Lustig, who netted a career high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds for her fourth career double-double in addition to three assists and a pair of steals
- Vassallo netted 17 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals while Megan Elias had a career high 10 points with four rebounds and three assists
- Cabana recorded a career best seven points to go with three rebounds and two assists while Steffen registered five points, six rebounds and four steals
- Hayes also tossed in five points while Donaldson added four points and six boards
- Mallory Elias recorded four rebounds, two points, two assists and two steals while Cartagena had two points and junior forward Lanie Herbert scored one point
- The Hounds shot 28-of-66 from the field (42.4 percent), 5-for-13 on three-pointers and 16-for-22 at the foul line
- The Blue & Grey held a 42-39 advantage on the boards while forcing the Lions into 19 turnovers against just 13 turnovers
