Moravian Races Past Goucher for Second Straight Landmark Conference Victory
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball team raced out to a 14-point halftime lead on the way to a 68-57 victory over visiting Goucher College in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening as the Hounds captured their second straight conference win.

How It Happened
- The Gophers got onto the scoreboard first while freshman guard Abby Hayes connected on two free throws for the Blue & Grey to knot the score at 2-2. Goucher ran off seven straight points to build a 9-2 edge. The Greyhounds pulled within a point at 9-8 on a lay-up by junior forward Lanie Herbert with 3:25 left in the opening quarter, and Moravian took the lead for good at 14-13 with 1:50 on the clock as senior guard Jayda Cartagena drained a jumper. Cartagena added two free throws and junior guard Lizzie Lustig added a free throw as the Hounds led 17-13 after ten minutes of action
- Lustig began the second quarter with a jumper, and the Greyhounds pushed the lead into double digits on a pair of free throws by junior forward Grace Steffen with 5:36 left in the first half to make it 27-17. Moravian put together a 13-0 run as Herbert made it 36-17 with 3:13 on the clock. The Gophers beat the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer to cut the Hounds edge to 44-30 at the intermission
- The Blue & Grey kept its lead in double figures for the entire third quarter, getting a large as 18 points, 55-37, on a three-pointer from senior guard Juliana Vassallo at the 3:49 mark. Vassallo added another late three-pointer for a 58-41 Moravian lead after 30 minutes of play
- The Greyhounds saw the advantage reach 20 twice in the final quarter
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had two players score in double figures led by Vassallo, who had 17 points to go with four rebounds and three assists
- Lustig finished with 13 points, five steals, three rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots while Hayes had eight points, four boards and two assists
- Cartagena tossed in seven points with four rebounds and two assists while Steffen recorded a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points
- Herbert also had six points with two boards while sophomore forward Kate Donaldson added four points and two rebounds
- Sophomore guard Kylie Sheridan had three points while sophomore guard Ellie Wallbillich registered seven rebounds and two points
- Sophomore guard Megan Elias also had seven boards with two assists while junior forward Bellisima Lew and freshman forward Sofie Laird both had one point and sophomore forward Brynn Ohlhoff grabbed two rebounds
- The Hounds shot 22-for-56 from the field (39.3 percent), 6-for-10 on three-pointers and 18-for-26 at the foul line. The Blue & Grey also had a 47-39 advantage on the boards
