Moravian Tops Goucher for Landmark Conference Road Victory
TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball team jumped out to an early first quarter lead on the way to a 60-55 victory at Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- The Gophers hit a pair of free throws for the first points of the contest before senior guard Jayda Cartagena got the Hounds on the scoreboard. Sophomore guard Ellie Wallbillich sank a lay-up to put the Blue & Grey on top, 4-2, and Moravian scored nine straight points for a 9-2 edge after a Cartagena free throw with 6:40 on the clock. After Goucher stopped the run, the Greyhounds ran off another nine points to lead 18-4 on a jumper from junior guard Lizzie Lustig with 2:18 still to play in the first quarter. The Gophers scored the final points of the period as Moravian led 18-6 after ten minutes of action
- Sophomore guard Kylie Cabana opened the second quarter with two free throws to push the advantage back to 14 points at 20-6. Freshman guard Abby Hayes drained a three-pointer for a 29-15 lead with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Gophers finished the second quarter with a 14-4 run cut the Hounds' edge to 33-29 at the intermission
- Goucher opened the second half by closing the gap to a point before a 6-0 run by Moravian capped off with a lay-up by Wallbillich had the Blue & Grey up 43-36 with 4:38 to go in the third quarter. The Hounds pushed the edge to eight on a three-pointer from senior guard Juliana Vassallo before the Gophers scored the last back of the quarter to make it 50-44 after 30 minutes of action
- Moravian pushed the lead into double digits at 56-46 with 6:09 remaining on a Vassallo jumper. The closest Goucher would get was three points at 58-55 with 53 seconds to play before free throws from Lustig and sophomore guard Megan Elias sealed the victory
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players score in double figures led by Lustig, who had 17 points to go with three assists
- Vassallo tossed in 14 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals while Wallbillich registered 10 points, four boards, two assists and two steals
- Cabana posted six points and six rebounds while Cartagena had seven rebounds and five points in the contest
- Junior forward Lanie Herbert grabbed 14 rebounds to go with four points, three blocked shots and a pair of assists while Hayes added three points and Elias had a point and three rebounds
- The Hounds shot 25-for-62 from the field, 3-for-12 on three-pointers and 7-for-10 at the foul line, and the Blue & Grey held a 49-44 advantage on the boards
