Greyhounds Top Wilkes for Fourth Win in Five Games
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball squad earned its fourth conference win in its last five contests with a 65-52 victory in Landmark Conference action at Wilkes University Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring on a lay-up from junior guard Lizzie Lustig. The Colonels knotted the score at 2-2 before sophomore guard Ellie Wallbillich netted two free throws. Wilkes scored the next five points for a 7-4 edge. Junior forward Grace Steffen scored twice and Wallbillich hit a late jumper to give the Blue & Grey a 10-7 edge after ten minutes of action
- Wallbillich hit two shots and Steffen added another bucket to start the second quarter to stretch the advantage to 16-9. Wilkes countered with a 12-2 run to move ahead 21-18 at the 5:47 mark, and the Colonels led 28-25 with 2:13 to go in the half. Junior forward Lanie Herbert connected on a three-point play and Wallbillich hit a free throw to send Moravian to the intermission with a 29-28 edge
- Freshman guard Abby Hayes sank two free throws to start the second half before Wilkes ran off four straight points for a 32-31 advantage. Hayes drained a three-pointer to give the Hounds the lead for good at the 7:29 mark while senior guard Juliana Vassallo pushed the lead to six points at 43-37 with 2:42 to go in the period. Lustig made a pair of free throws to put the Blue & Grey ahead 47-41 after 30 minutes of play
- The Colonels scored the first three points of the fourth quarter before a lay-up from Steffen and a three-point play by Lustig pushed Moravian's edge to 52-44. The Greyhounds advantage reached double digits for the first time on a lay-up from Steffen with 3:47 remaining for a 59-48 lead
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players score in double figures led Wallbillich, who netted 16 points to go with four steals and two assists
- Steffen finished with 12 points and a career-high 20 rebounds for her second straight double-double of the season and the fifth of her career, and she also had a pair of blocked shots
- Vassallo tossed in ten points to go with four rebounds and three assists while Lustig had nine points, four boards and two steals
- Herbert registered six points, five rebounds and two blocked shots while Hayes and senior guard Jayda Cartagena both had five points
- Sophomore guard Megan Elias posted two points, three assists, two boards and two steals
- The Hounds shot 23-for-68 from the field, 3-for-14 on three-pointers and 16-for-19 at the foul line, and the Blue & Grey forced the Colonels into 19 turnovers
