Greyhounds Come Back from Ten-Point Halftime Deficit to Defeat Wilkes
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women’s basketball trailed by ten points at halftime before rebounding in the second half for a 63-50 Landmark Conference victory versus visiting Wilkes University in Johnston Hall Saturday.

How It Happened
- The Colonels opened the scoring while junior guard Lizzie Lustig knotted the score at 2-2 with a pair of free throws. A jumper by senior guard Juliana Vassallo had the game tie at 4-4 before Wilkes ran off nine straight points for a 13-4 edge. Junior forward Lanie Herbert snapped the run with a lay-up, but the Colonels stretched the advantage to 17-11 with a little over a minute left in the opening quarter. Sophomore guards Kylie Cabana and Ellie Wallbillich each hit shots, and Cabana added a free throw to get the Hounds within a point. Wallbillich grabbed a rebound with four seconds left and heaved a half-court shot just before the buzzer that swished in the net to give the Blue & Grey a 19-17 lead after ten minutes of action
- Sophomore guard Megan Elias connected on a jumper for the first points of the second quarter and a four-point lead for the Greyhounds. Wallbillich hit a lay-up for a 25-22 edge midway through the quarter before the Colonels ran off 14 of the final 15 points of the half to lead 36-26 at the intermission
- Moravian struck first in the second half as junior forward Grace Steffen sank a three-pointer. Wilkes held a 41-33 edge while a jumper from Elias and two free throws by Cabana made it a four-point game in the final minute of the third quarter. However, the Colonels scored five points in the last 36 seconds to take a 46-37 advantage after 30 minutes of play
- Wallbillich hit two quick shots to start the fourth quarter, and a jumper by Lustig had Moravian down just 46-43 less than two minutes into the period. Elias knotted the score at 46-46 with a three-pointer, and the Blue & Grey moved back in front 49-46 on a three-point play from Wallbillich with 6:06 to play. Herbert stretched the run to 14 points to start the quarter with a lay-up before the Colonels scored their first points of the fourth quarter midway through the period. Senior guard Jayda Cartagena hit back-to-back shots to give the Greyhounds a lead they wouldn't relinquish, and Elias sank six free throws in the final minute to finish the scoring
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian put a pair of players in double figures with Elias netting a career-high 17 points to go with four assists and three rebounds as she went 8-for-8 at the foul line in the final 2:27 of the game
- Wallbillich tossed in 14 points to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals while Cartagena finished with nine points and a pair of steals
- Herbert recorded seven points with four boards while Cabana had seven rebounds and five points off the bench
- Lustig was limited to four points to go with four rebounds and a pair of assists while Vassallo also had four points
- Steffen contributed three points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots while freshman guard Abby Hayes grabbed a trio of boards
- The Hounds shot 22-of-70 from the field (31.4 percent), 4-for-15 beyond the three-point line and 15-for-17 at the foul line
- The Blue & Grey also had a 50-45 edge on the boards including 17-13 on the offensive glass, and Moravian forced Wilkes into 21 turnovers while committing just 12 miscues
