Moravian Sweeps Ursinus in Non-Conference Action
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball squad swept a non-conference doubleheader at Ursinus College Wednesday, winning 9-3 and 10-1 in five innings.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Senior third baseman Sydney Andrews was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and after she stole second base, Andrews raced home on an error on a ball hit by junior right fielder Kyra Holtje. Later in the inning, Holtje scored on an RBI single from sophomore catcher Sydney Scarpato
- The Blue & Grey stretched the advantage to 6-0 with four runs in the fourth frame. Senior pitcher Sarah DeStefano started the inning with a hit and a stolen base while freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros singled with one out. Andrews connected on a two-RBI triple as DeStefano and Chloros touched the plate. Holtje followed with an RBI triple to bring in Andrews while Holtje scored on an RBI groundout from senior shortstop Samantha Derickson
- Moravian made it 7-0 with a run in the fifth inning. Scarpato had a leadoff single before junior Cassandra Farrell came into pinch run. Freshman pinch hitter Amelia Noll connected on an RBI single to chase Farrell home
- The Hounds added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh for a 9-0 edge. Sophomore Kaley Hoffman drew a pinch-hit walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Chloros connected on an RBI single to score Hoffman while Andrews ripped an RBI double as Chloros raced around the bases
- The Bears scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to set the final at 9-3
- DeStefano made the start in the circle, and she had five strikeouts in six innings of action. Sophomore Riley Robinson pitched the final inning with a pair of strikeouts
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chloros was hit by a pitch to start the game and stole second before Andrews drew a walk. Derickson reached on an error to load the bases while DeStefano was hit by a pitch to score Chloros. Scarpato connected on a two-RBI single as Andrews and Derickson touched the plate while freshman second baseman Nicole Giglio ripped a two-RBI triple to chase DeStefano and Scarpato home
- Moravian added a pair of runs in the second frame for a 7-0 edge. Chloros reached on an error to begin the inning while Andrews connected on an RBI triple s Chloros raced around the bases. Derickson added a sacrifice fly to score Andrews
- The Blue & Grey tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth for a 10-0 advantage. Junior center fielder Shayla Morgan led off the frame with an inside the park home run. Chloros reached again on an error and scored on an RBI double by Andrews. Senior designated player Marcie Silberman drove in Andrews with an RBI single
- Ursinus scored once in the bottom of the fifth to close out the game
- Senior Natalie Otto started in the circle, and she had six strikeouts in the complete game victory
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian registered 19 hits in the twinbill with Andrews going 4-for-5 with five runs, five RBIs, two doubles and two triples
- Chloros was 3-for-6 with five runs and an RBI while Scarpato contributed three hits, three RBIs and a run
- DeStefano went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI while Derickson added two hits, two RBIs and a run
- Morgan had one hit, her first career homer, with a run and an RBI while Holtje recorded one hit, a triple, an RBI and two runs and Giglio had a hit, a triple and two RBIs
- Silberman and Noll both finished with one hit and an RBI while Farrell scored once
