Hounds Split Landmark Conference Twinbill at Scranton
SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team split a Landmark Conference doubleheader at The University of Scranton Wednesday, falling 5-4 in the opener and winning the nightcap 10-2.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. Freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros led off with a single, and she raced home on a two-out, RBI double by senior catcher Marcie Silberman
- The Blue & Grey made it 2-0 in the top of the third as Chloros started the frame again with a single and scored on a two-out, RBI single by senior shortstop Samantha Derickson
- The Royals countered with three runs, two of them unearned, in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 edge
- Moravian answered in the top of the fifth with a run to knot the score at 3-3. Silberman led off with a single before junior Madelin Cooper came on to pinch run. Cooper moved to third on a single by senior pitcher Sarah DeStefano, and the duo pulled off a double steal with Cooper racing home as DeStefano stole second base
- Scranton plated two more unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 5-3
- The Hounds pushed a run home in the top of the sixth to make it 5-4. Senior third baseman Sydney Andrews led off with a solo home run for her first career homer
- Moravian left the tying run at second base in the top of the seventh, and the Blue & Grey had left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings and a total of 12 runners on base in the contest
- DeStefano started in the circle and posted three strikeouts while allowing just six hits and one earned run
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Greyhounds scored a first inning run in the second game for another quick 1-0 advantage. Andrews connected on a one-out single, and she scored on an RBI single from DeStefano
- Scranton countered in the bottom of the first with a run to knot the score at 1-1
- Moravian retook the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second for a 3-1 edge. Freshman Kaley Hoffman led off with a single and moved to second on an error. Hoffman raced home on an RBI single from junior center fielder Shayla Morgan. Morgan eventually scored on an RBI single from Andrews
- The Royals cut the score to 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the third
- The Hounds pushed in two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-2. Junior pitcher Kyra Holtje singled while freshman second baseman Nicole Giglio reached on an error. Derickson drove in both Holtje and Giglio with a two-RBI double
- Moravian added two runs in the top of the sixth. Morgan led off the frame with a single and stole second before Chloros ripped an RBI triple. Andrews followed with an RBI triple of her own while Chloros touched the plate
- The Blue & Grey finished off the scoring with three runs in the top of the seventh. Derickson and Hoffman had singles while sophomore Amelia Noll drew a pinch hit walk to load the bases. Chloros reached on an error as Derickson and Hoffman scored, and Andrews reached on another error as Morgan scampered home
- Holtje was in the circle to start game two, and she pitched three innings. Senior Natalie Otto tossed four innings of no-hit relief with six strikeouts to earn the victory
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 27 hits in the two games with Andrews going 4-for-8 with three RBIs, three runs, a triple and a homer
- Derickson went 4-8 with three RBIs, a double and a run scored while Morgan had a 3-for-5 day with three runs and an RBI
- Chloros registered three hits, three runs, a triple and an RBI while Holtje added three hits and a run
- Hoffman recorded three hits and scored twice while sophomore catcher Sydney Scarpato was 2-for-3
- Silberman had a pair of hits with an RBI double while DeStefano had two hits and an RBI
- Noll collected one hit while Giglio and Cooper each scored a run
