Greyhounds Sweep Alfred to Start Week at RussMatt Invitational
AUBURNDALE, Fla. --- The Moravian University baseball team swept Alfred (N.Y.) University at Lake Myrtle Park, winning 19-0 and 13-0, Sunday to begin a week at the RussMatt Invitational.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman right fielder Jack Cappo drew a leadoff walk, and he raced home on an RBI triple from sophomore center fielder Luke Keitsock. Senior first baseman Sean Superka hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Keitsock. Sophomore shortstop David Vozzo hit a two-out double before sophomore third baseman Emit Budick connected on an RBI double and Vozzo came home, and Budick scored the final run on a throwing error by the Saxons
- The Blue & Grey tacked on six runs in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the advantage to 10-0. Vozzo led off the inning with a double, and Budick followed with an RBI double to plate Vozzo. Sophomore designated hitter Matt Westcott ripped an RBI single up the middle to score Budick. Keitsock drew a bases loaded walk to push in Westcott while Superka was hit by a pitch that allowed sophomore second baseman Owen Ness to score. Vozzo was also hit by a pitch as Cappo scored, and Keitzock raced home on a wild pitch
- Moravian plated nine runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 19-0 edge. Junior pinch hitter Aidan Lane drew a walk, Ness singled and Cappo added a walk to load the bases. Junior pinch hitter Dominic Venini had an RBI walk to bring in Lane while freshman pinch hitter John Phillips also drew an RBI walk that scored Ness. Cappo raced home on a wild pitch while Venini came in on a balk. Junior pinch hitter Kiernan Keninitz connected on a two-RBI double to score Phillips and Superka while sophomore catcher Ronnie Werkheiser had an RBI groundout to score freshman pinch hitter Nick Mancini. Lane added an RBI single to bring in Keninitz while Lane raced home on an RBI single by Phillips for the final run
- Senior Ross Huffman made the start on the mound, and he allowed five hits and a walk to go with six strikeouts in five innings of action to earn the win. Junior Caden Ward tossed one inning with two strikeouts while senior Max Sponeheimer had one strikeout in the final inning to complete the shutout, the first for the Greyhounds since March 19, 2024
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Cappo and Keitsock both drew walks to start the inning before sophomore left fielder Troy Rabosky ripped an RBI double to score Cappo while Vozzo connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to bring Keitsock home
- Moravian doubled the advantage to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the third inning. Rabosky connected on a one-out solo homerun to left field, his eighth career homer. Vozzo added a two-out, solo homer to left field as well as he earned his third career home run
- After the third inning, the contest entered into a weather delay due to lightning in the area
- Once the game resumed, the Blue & Grey tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning. Rabosky led off with a triple down the right field line, and he scored on an RBI infield single by Superka
- Moravian scored eight times in the top of the seventh to make it a 13-0 lead. Superka reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an RBI single form Budick. Freshman catcher Chris Whalen added a two-RBI double to score Vozzo, who had walked, and Budick while Cappo hit a two-RBI triple that scored junior designated hitter Ryan Hoffman, who had drawn a walk, and Whalen. After Keitsock walked, Rabosky ripped an RBI single to bring in Cappo as Rabosky hit for the cycle in the game. Superka reached on an error as Keitsock raced home while Vozzo added an RBI single to score Rabosky
- Senior Matt Snyder started on the hill, and he had seven strikeouts in three innings of action before the weather delay. Junior Nate McBride posted three strikeouts in two innings on the mound while junior Nick Leonard had three strikeouts in an inning of action. Junior Wes Griffith tossed the final inning with one strikeout
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had 20 hits on the day with Vozzo going 4-for-6 with four runs, four RBIs, two doubles and a home run
- Rabosky was also 4-for-6 after hitting for the cycle in game two, and he added three runs, three RBIs, a double a triple and a homer
- Budick went 3-for-8 on the day with three runs, three RBIs and a pair of doubles while Keitsock had one hit, four runs, a triple and two RBIs
- Cappo scored five times to go with one hit while Superka recorded a hit, two runs and three RBIs
- Ness and Lane were both 1-for-1 with two runs with Lane adding an RBI while Phillips was 1-for-1 with a run and two RBIs
- Keninitz had a 1-for-1 day with a pair of RBIs and a run and a double while Westcott went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI
- Whalen was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and a run while Werkheiser added an RBI and both Venini and Mancini each scored once
- The Hounds drew a single game record 17 walks in the opener, and the Blue & Grey had 25 base on balls in the doubleheader
