Moravian Falls to Bethany at RussMatt Invitational
AUBURNDALE, Fla. --- The Moravian University baseball squad fell to Bethany (W.Va.) College, 23-10, in non-conference action at the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park Wednesday.

How It Happened
- The Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead with three consecutive hits to begin the game in the top of the first inning
- Bethany scored eight times in the top of the second and twice in the top of the third frame for a 12-0 advantage
- The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with two runs to cut the deficit to 12-2. Sophomore third baseman Owen Ness reached on an error to start the inning, and he scored on an RBI single by sophomore center fielder Luke Keitsock. Sophomore left fielder Troy Rabosky reached on a fielder's choice, and the Hounds loaded the bases as senior first baseman Sean Superka was hit by a pitch and sophomore shortstop David Vozzo drew a walk. Junior designated hitter David Rodriguez was also hit by a pitch to push Rabosky home
- The Bison added four runs in the top of the fourth to make it 16-2
- In the bottom of the fourth, freshman right fielder Jack Cappo drew a two-out walk and scored on a pinch hit single by junior Matt Westcott for the Hounds
- Moravian added a run in the bottom of the fifth to set the score at 16-4. Vozzo drew a walk before freshman Joe Loiacono came into pinch run. Sophomore second baseman Nathan Jones connected on an RBI double to score Loiacono
- Bethany scored seven times in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 23-4
- The Hounds pushed five runs home in the bottom of the sixth. Graduate student outfielder Joey Richmond led off with a pinch hit double before Westcott singled and Loiacono drew a walk to load the bases. Freshman pinch hitter John Phillips was hit by a pitch to score Richmond while Westcott raced home on a wild pitch. Junior catcher Ryan Kessler followed with a two RBI single to chase Loiacono and Phillips across the plate, and Kessler finished off the inning when he scored on an error
- The Blue & Grey finished off the scoring with a bottom of the seventh. Westcott drew a leadoff walk and scored the final run of the game on an RBI sacrifice fly by Kessler
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected nine hits with Westcott going 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI
- Jones added two hits and an RBI while Kessler had a hit and three RBIs
- Richmond contributed a hit, a run, an RBI and a double while Cappo registered a hit and a run
- Keitsock posted a hit and an RBI while junior outfielder Domenic Venini also had one hit
- Loiacono scored twice while Rabosky, Phillips and Ness all scored once. Phillips and Rodriguez both had one RBI
- Sophomore Cam Elicier made the start on the mound for the Hounds and had a pair of strikeouts in an inning of action. Junior Rocco Viscito tossed two-thirds of an inning while senior Max Sponheimer pitched a third of an inning. Sophomore EJ Youngling recorded two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work while junior Nick Leonard struck out two batters in two-thirds of an inning. Sophomore Chase Wengryn pitched an inning with one strikeout while junior Aidan Lane tossed a third of an inning. Senior Stefano Garofalo faced three batters while junior Ryan Grill registered two strikeouts in the final 1.2 innings
