Greyhounds Drop Landmark Conference Doubleheader at Catholic
WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian University baseball team dropped a Landmark Conference doubleheader at The Catholic University of America Saturday, falling 3-2 in 11 innings and 11-2.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Cardinals scored the opening run in the bottom of the second inning, and Catholic added a run in the bottom for the fifth for a 2-0 edge
- Down to their final two outs in the ninth inning, the Greyhounds plated two runs to force extra innings. Sophomore third baseman Owen Ness drew a one-out while senior pinch hitter James Ruban III had a pinch hit single. After junior Aidan Lane came on to pinch run, a wild pitch moved Ness and Lane both into scoring position. Junior pinch hitter Ryan Hoffman ripped an RBI single to score Ness while Lane tied the game on an RBI single from senior first baseman Sean Superka. The Hounds left the bases loaded in the inning
- Catholic pushed the winning run home in the bottom of the 11th inning
- Senior Ross Huffman started on the hill in the opener, and he had five strikeouts in six innings of action. Junior Nick Leonard added four strikeouts in two innings of work while junior Caden Ward had a pair of strikeouts in two innings. Sophomore Chase Wengryn tossed a third of an inning
How It Happened – Game #1
- The Cardinals took another early lead in the second game with a run in the bottom of the first
- Catholic added two runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings to stretch the edge to 5-0
- Moravian got onto the scoreboard with a run in the top of the sixth. Freshman right fielder John Phillips led off with a double while Superka and sophomore left fielder Troy Rabosky drew walks to load the bases. Sophomore center fielder Luke Keitsock hit into a double play with Phillips racing home
- The Cardinals countered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-1 edge
- The Greyhounds scored again in the top of the eighth. Phillips started the frame with a single, and he moved to third on a double from Rabosky before scampering home on a wild pitch
- Catholic finished off the scoring with four runs in the bottom half of the eighth
- Senior Matt Snyder started on the mound and posted two strikeouts in five innings. Senior Max Sponheimer had a strikeout in 1.2 innings while freshman Sean Heissler tossed a third of an inning. Sophomore EJ Youngling registered two strikeouts in an inning of work
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected 13 hits on the day with freshman shortstop Joe Loiacono going 4-for-6
- Phillips was 3-for-6 with a pair of runs and a double while Superka had two hits and an RBI
- Rabosky also registered two hits while Ruban and Hoffman each had one hit with Hoffman adding an RBI
- Lane scored once for the Hounds
